so with my truck with the turbo, i was told that if i took that big air box off and put a 4 inch hose or so and on the end of it i would put a filter on it like your talking about... that wouldn't help? in fact it would hinder it?

CORRECT Install a afe dry air filter in stock turbo box and hypermax cold air kit;Sweet

Thanks for the offer, Ill probably get an intake hat and do a ghost tube soon, then just run a prefilter in the mud. I could also just go find the couple of stockers I have somewhere LOL

Spectre is junk though...the little pipes they sell are just chromed plastic, and I don't trust their filters either.

BTW I'm using an AFE Dryflow filter. Doesn't require oiling and supposed to be a lot better than a K&N...but, they aren't too cheap. I think I paid $40-50 for my filter.

I seen a coffee can bolt to the Intake with a tube welded to it once. The tube can over to the finder with a big ol' air filler on it.

Spectre is junk!! I can't express it enough! I put 500 miles on one and it was clogged. Took it off and went back to factory intake style with no soup bowl it's better than spectre.

This might be too rigged but has anyone thought of taking a 12 volt fan and putting it in the intake tube to force air into the intake ?

If your going to run a pointless open element intake then run a 6637 filter or a BHAF, they get the job done much better than spectre junk!

But ram-air or cowl induction gets much cooler air then the others

So that thing that splices into the tube connected to the air filter... what is that connected to on the drivers side of the motor? that little round thing... how important is that? what does it do
that's the CDR valve dump. it's pretty critical if you don't want your motor blowing out all the seals keeping the oil in where it should be at.
you could do a road draft tube but you will need to get rid of the CDR if you are going to do that.
