Ok, now i know i am not getting **FIXED** owners of 93 & 94 IDI read this!!!

Got burned by a 91' IDI with a fresh pump, stock exhaust back till the rear of the cab, then into stacks. NO OTHER MODS. on take off, he was MUCH, MUCH quicker than me. i could keep up from 70-85 mph.

IP is turned up, smokes black until turbo gets some boost, then clears up.

I have a banks turbo, with the wastegate maxed.

I suspect it is the IP.

What should I do?

How quick do your turbo IDI's reach boost. Mine seems really slow.

brand new stage 1 injectors.

I don't have any experience with any other IDI's, as this is the first one i have ever been around.

SUCKS TO HAVE 3K IN A TRUCK, JUST TO GET BURNED BY SOME DUDE IN A STOCK ONE. cookoo :puke: :draw

help me out guys!!!!

What about gearing? If he has 4.10's, and you have 3.55's that makes a difference. The rest of it I would say could be timing. Get your IP timed by somebody with the right equipment who knows how to use it.

Yep, gearing makes a huge difference off the line. I know when we got our 94 factory turbo the timing was way retarded and it was really slow. I'd expcet a 4.10 geared NA IDI to smoke a 3.55 factory turbo off the line. I had 4.10's in my factory turbo for quite a while, it would easily light up both rear tires - was quite quick off the line. I recently put in 3.55's and its not nearly as quick off the line, but is more relaxed at 75mph.

Nope, wasn't gearing.
I called Ken at DPS and was trying to figure out this issue, and after about 2 minutes, under the hood with cell phone at ear, we fixed it.

turns out, the 93 & 94 IDI's have a nice little screw on the back/top of the injection pump, facing the firewall. Ken called it a max fuel screw, and all you do is unscrew the white plastic cap, stick an allen key in it, and turn it out, then tighten the white cap again.

***HOLY COW!!!!***

Did it make a difference?!?!?! oh hell yes it did. I can't even explain what kind of difference it made.

The boost reachs max boost VERY, VERY quickly, which is now a beautiful, easy to obtain 12 lbs. the truck feels like it is on steroids. I seriously think it has more power than my cousin's 97 powerstroke----- same basic modes as me, but with an edge chip (obviously, when he is running his chip on high, he has way more power than me)

I was thinking of ditching the truck because of lack of power, but now i am definetally keeping her. I wish you all could see the smile on my face right now!!!!

So this little max fuel screw is only on the 93-94s?

I sure would like to find a screw like that on my truck

its the turbo IP.
I've got one on my 89

$350 for a rebuilt.... if you have a turbo, and you need an ip, it's the way to go... my truck is a pretty peppy piece of sh*t

the screw it self is about inch and a half long-- i took it all the way out when messing around with it.

I ended up only turning it about a quarter inch- 3/8" out farther than it already was. it is now about in the middle of the screw, or maybe a little less.

I could acheive 12 lbs boost before i did this, but it was difficult. now i hit 12 lbs all the time. I stomp on it, and it shoots straight to 12 lbs. boost isn't slow to max out, it is quick. it feels much more like the diesels i have owned in the past, not the sluggish slow motor i was used to with the truck.

best thing to do is just start messing around with it. when you find a spot you like, red RTV around the set screw, then place the cap back on. otherwise, it will leak (at least mine did)
