I knew that I’d seen it on a sticker….somewhere!
Thank you.
From the factory, that sticker was on the oil fill spout for 83-86 6.9s. For the 87 6.9 and the 7.3s it was on the inspection cover that covers the IP to gear bolts (5/16" 12 point). It's right underneath the oil fill spout. That's on trucks. The vans, I'm not sure about them..

I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen it on a valve cover too.

I sure won't argue with that one. I don't remember seeing one there, but I'm still not going to argue. I have NOT seen it all!

It's the same on Econolines. The 85 E350 RV had a sticker telling OCIs on the oil filler neck that covered the IP to gear bolts.

Even cheaper for these IDI size ones. For 2500mi oci, is it even worth using an extra quart of oil for a psd filter?

i bought a few cases of those too before i realized the psd filters were almost as cheap. so if i ever use 40 psd filters ill start using the regular idi ones

in my head the psd filter is designed for longer oci's and maybe finer particulate removal cause of the heui system. idk i run a TP bypass filter too lol

seems like folks are leaning towards cheap filters and change them out more frequently - good way to go and i'm all for it. Will check out the rock auto ones hadn’t really considered it, usually pick up the motorcraft psd filters at wally world which is where i've been getting oil lately

Around 3k oci is what makes sense to me, don’t have to stress if it stretches to 4k more or if the truck ends up idling long periods or gets worked etc. engine burns a qt every 700 mile too

If y'all thought $27.xx at Walmart was expensive for FL1995... it's $52.49 from dealers.

In the early 2000’s, when Mobil 1 was slowing/subtly introducing their extended performance gas motor oil. Dad, brother, and I started doing 10k OCI’s.

Problem was there wasn’t a filter on the mkt that touted/marketed lasting 10k miles. So we would put a new filter on at 5k miles.

I’d be apt to run the oil longer than the filter.

Thanks for the input yall. I was previously taught the filters would last longer than the oil but maybe that's more for gassers or just wrong. Went with a napa filter and will try that out for an oci - believe to have read some thing about how they changed and stuff but hopefully should work fine for 3-4k miles. Am about 4200 miles into this last oci.

I'm curious though - for folks running synth oil with long 8-10k oci would assume the filters are running way longer. Does that not present any issues? Or is synth just different and it's not a concern?

The IDI is still going to $hit up synthetic oil as fast as conventional. And filters are going to have a minimum micron rating regardless

@rreegg as you know about TDI’s OCI’s and filters get brought up a lot. It always boils down to a descent synthetic oil and a descent filter and do 10k OCI’s. They always say drive more worry less.

I am apt to follow that mantra here, except 5k OCI in my case (nothing that Cubey posted above) with the most convenient filter and the most convenient 5w-40 or 15w-40 diesel oil.

As far as my post above about the Mobil 1 and gasser. Within a couple years someone came out with a 10k rated filter. (I think Fram, around $10) and we stopped changing filters midway. We put over 500k on those cars and had the valve covers off two of them (dang dexcool). Clean inside except for the yellowish dye that Mobil 1 seems to stain everything.

With all the blowby from our old engines, it's hard to believe that any oil won't get overloaded with carbon in 10k miles. Has anyone sent off oil to be analyzed? If you're going for extended intervals, maybe get it tested at the halfway mark one time, see what that looks like.

I have some old IDI filters I was gifted. I could put half dozen in a box and get a quote from the post office on shipping, if anyone wants to take a chance on'em. Don't know how they've been stored, don't know much except they're older Frams for our IDIs, not Powersmoke.

I'd be happy to send'em out for no charge except shipping.
