selling at auction tomorrow morning. a NOS crate engine, bought by Uncle Sammy but never uncrated, circa 2001.

How does it compare to the 7.3 IDI for power?

I'm thinking it would be a good replacement for my gasoline 460 in a Ford Club Wagon van, with E4OD. I don't want to mod the engine, just replace an 8mpg gasser with an equally powerful diesel.

I have very little experience swapping engines, so what ye,

O' Wizards of the IDI...

DT466 are very long, and will require a good amount of mods to shoehorn into a truck, let alone a van. As far as power goes, Sky is the limit basically, how deep are your pockets?

Unless its one of the newer DT466E, which uses a HEUI system, if I remember correctly. Then you are limited.

If it is a 2001 motor, it is a DT466E. HEUI electronically controlled injecton. Not something that will be remotely easy to swap even if it where a mechanically injected DT466. They are long motors, but will make 2000HP if you have the money.

The E4OD would not be a good match and would require a custom adaptor to make it work. A Eaton Fuller or Spicer medium duty manual tranny would be a better option with the DT466.

I'M IN THE EARLY STAGE OF DOING A DT466 SWAP MYSELF.
