There are at least six fires burning in Napa. Sonoma, Solano and Mendocino counties. They ALL started Monday night near midnight when high winds knocked down power lines, starting many of these fires. The fires quickly spread and became overwhelming for Cal Fire. Local and out of state crews have been brought in to help contain this massive fires. I was at a friends house in Potter Valley, near Ukiah, CA, yesterday. They live in a rural area wit well water and limited services. Power is out and will not be restored for at least a week. They have solar-tied-to-grid power but no battery backup so no power. They are running off of a 3500 watt gas genset. They are OK but many in Potter Valley are not. Napa and Sonoma counties have been hit hard. Thousands of homes are gone, as well as wineries. Highway 101 south through Santa Rosa has been closed since Monday night. There are ways around this road block, but they are slow. In general we are OK but it is a real awaking experience.

I have family in Santa Rosa. It is pretty crazy up there right now. My wife’s grandmother had her house but lost her rental to the fire. Her uncles was evacuated and has not been allowed to go back yet. We have not heard how his place has faired yet. They sent us some pictures of the devastation. It is amazing. It has been a long time since a fire has done this much damage to homes. Whole neighborhoods gone. Usually it is just wild land that burns up like that.

You guys in the path (anywhere within 5 miles of reported fronts ) be ready.
This made it from my house at ground zero to Santa Rosa in 2 hrs...a leisurely 1 hour putt on the bike.

Smoke is filling the central valley. Went on a run to Reno and back last night for work. I started seeing noticeable smoke at over 5,000 feet on the way back to the valley over Donner pass. It's going to be a mess for a long time to come. All be safe.
