So my grandfather put a new engine in his 89 Chevy 1500, auto tranny. It is a tbi 350, and he wasn't pleased with the oil pressure, so he replaced the oil pump with a high pressure oil pump. It has not ran since he replaced that pump, and he threw out the old one( God knows why before he made sure it ran). We have spark, and fuel, but it doesn't even sputter when cranking. Any thoughts anyone?

plug wires, had that issue in a '95 suburban years ago, turned out there were a couple different positions the #1 cylinder on the dist would be at depending on year, even though the firing order was the same

So you're saying replace the wires? The truck ran great on the new engine until he put the high pressure pump in

I would say the timing is just off. Or he dropped the rod out that drives the distributor. Pull the cap and see if it spins while cranking.

or that the distributor was dropped in wrong. rotate to TDC on #1 of compression stroke, and pull the cap.
it should be facing #1 cylinder.

We have gone tooth by tooth on the distributor many times, no luck

According to my grandpa and dad they have done something similar to this, but I'll give it a shot. I'm in a position where I can have this truck if we get it running, and it's an awesome truck( even if it is a Chevy) my grandpa bought it new in 89, step side z71 that's been a part of both my father's and my childhood, I'd love to get it running

Get Cylinder one on tdc, then line the rotor bug with the number one plug wire.
Oh yeah, pull a plug and see if it's firing.

It turns out that my grandpa put agear kit for timing that is slightly adjustable. He believes that cam gear moved enough to keep it from starting, so I'm working on taking the timing cover off and seeing if that gear did in fact move

I myself am a Ford guy, but this is a seriously sweet pickup with sentimental value, new brakes, rebuilt tranny, new engine. Also figure that I'm going to need a smaller vehicle compared to my f250 when I do my military career
