No Battery charge gauge

Why did they make the 2002 Powerstroke without a charging gauge in the dash ?
How am I supposed to tell im loosing q charge ? check engine light ? Is it supposed to come on when system isnt charging ?
I have 2 new batteries and new alternator.... thinking of getting new battery cables starter to batts.

It was never a "real" gauge to begin with.

I'd look into the scangage2 if you're on a budget....you can program it to show up to 4 parameters at a time.

On my truck is shows voltage, HPO pressure, oil temp, intake temp.
