BELIEVE ME; that first cut hurt. It took me a week of goin back and forth before I could do it. My dad finally convinced me that if I didn't use it for this project and give it a new life that it would probably just sit around until it was rotten- look at as giving the old girl a heart transplant...might leave a few scars, but in the end she'll have a longer higher quality of life!

It was a tough thing to do. I love old trucks... but the stock configuration could never realistically meet my needs. I must bow down and ask the IH gods for forgiveness.:hail:hail:hail

I was able to get a break on the weather today and left work a few minutes early to take advantage of it. My plan is to get the interior painted so that I don't have to tear it apart again after I get it together and running. I am sure it will get scratched and scraped here and there as it goes together, so I foresee some touch up work later. I sanblasted and primered the roof and intrerior yesterday.

I decided to use the hugger orange in the interior. I will offset this with a bright white dash.

The temperature was near 70F so I went for it!

I am using the new Summit paint system. The cost was reasonable. This project is not about perfection or I wouldn't be doing it under a tree in the backyard. That said; I still want it to turn out as well as possible. I am using a paint gun from HF tools that was on sale for 14.99 a few weeks ago. I'm no pro, but the thing lays down this paint pretty darn well.

My dear wife helped me cover the cab with plastic. A 500w light will be left on in the cab overnight to keep the temperature in the range where the paint will cure. Again, not the best, but as good as can be mustered right now.

Next step is to remove the doors and get them repaired, cleaned up, primered, and ready to paint. I will need to order the window gaskets and trim soon. This is a new area for me. Hopefully I can figure out how to get them apart and back together without too much trouble.

Don't laugh at those cheap guns. If you know what you're doing they can do as good a paint job as a $300 spray gun. I've painted several trucks and trailers over the years and have gotten to a point I tend to use on of these more than anything else.

I just painted a truck bed for a neighbor using enamel paint. Looks almost like glass. You definitely did a heck of a job painting that one.

if ya need any help with IH truck parts give me a holler i have a few good places to go unless you have what you need.

-Jon

I don't have any of it yet. There seems to be a few options; there is an ebay seller with IH trim and moulding; Travellallparts.com seems to have everything for the '57; the window felt and liner stuff from Metrommp?

Any advice on who is good to work with would be great.

www.superscoutspecialists.com
www.lightlineofla.com

those are my favorites, i hear they're the same owner w/ the same parts but i find different parts in different places....cookoo

my "go to" site is:

www.binderplanet.org ....they have a IH parts place, if you become a member you will find ant IH questions you could need.

Bed will be 8 ft. I cut the back off yesterday...

lost 300 lbs and gained 10 hp and 3 mpg in one cut!! :D I will have a toolbox in front of the bed so the overall length is a bit over 10 feet. I hope to make the 8 foot section a dump bed.

I haul a 16' tandem axle enclosed trailer loaded with motorcycles and gear.

I would love to do a ZF 5 speed gearbox eventually, but right now the plan is just to get it on the road as-is...then the fun stuff can happen!;Sweet

4x4 just doesn't interest me that much. I have had 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive trucks over the years and the 2 wheel drives have been much more reliable and get better ga$ mileage. I may put a winch under the tool box so that I can get out of a bind if it becomes necessary.

Much progress was made yesterday..not much time for taking photos...then it got too dark. Dash and glovebox are now "Bright White" and turned out real good! (I used a new HF paint gun and man does that thing lay down some nice color. My old gun is now for primer only!)

This old girl has been distracting me from my IH duties:

Its whats left of a 1930 Ford AA 1 1/2 ton truck. It had been "pasturized" many years ago. It still has some good parts and will be a future project. Definitely not a restoration; more along the lines of a "rod" project. I spent a day going up and getting her out of the farmers field.
