I bought a 1975 300D Mercedes with a plan of running Waste tranny fluid. I started out with a 50-50 *** to diesel. Ran better, made less noise. I am assuming because new diesel is low sulfer, hence low lubrication, the tranny fluid gave back some lubrication. Anyway, ran so good, I went back to the shop and filled the gravity feed back up tank with 100% tranny fluid. Ran good, but didnt seem to pull hills as well as the percentage of tranny fluid got higher than the diesel. So then I got to thinking that because of the flash point of tranny fluid is about 150 degrees higher than diesel, the cetane rating is also probably higher. I couldnt verify this, its just a hunch. So I thought, well I could use some waste oil, and this should get the cetane rating down a bit as well as the flash point. Yesterday I dropped in the waste oil. The mixture was probably about 75% tranny fluid, 25% waste oil.....ran like crap. I could feel the engine pulsing a power loss. I am unsure if the oil had water in it or not because my filtration pump is as follows:

Shur flo RV pump hooked to a fuel filter off a newer car, probably 10 mics or so. I put the hose in the WMO tank at a shop, hook up the 12V to my battery, and pump straight into the fuel tank of the car. So it is possible there was water.

Another possibility is the fuel filters on the car are junk from running all the oil through....maybe 10 mics isnt enough in my pump system.

So I am curious, what suggestions do you all have on making a portable pump set up that I can throw in my trunk? I want to make sure I dont get water in my tank and want to filter everything well enough to not have issues. My Mercedes stock fuel filter seems to be 16 mics. So I thought going to 10 mics would be sufficient??

Also, car smokes like a pig upon start up, and smokes some when going down the road. more than i would like. Suggestions here?

BTW, my car came equipped with an altitude adjustment that allows me to set for sea level, 4000 ft, 8000 ft, and 12,000 ft. This is on the fuel cell that the injector lines come out of and to the injectors. I assume this gives more fuel at sea level, and less fuel as you set the setting higher...does this sound right?

Another thing, car starts harder in the cold than I think it should. What is a good way to preheat fuel lines and tank? I want this to be a simple process....I was thinking of using a hot water tank heater....any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
jeff

WMO Filtration

My experience with WMO is centrifuging is the best way to clean it. Ran some through five mic filters and still had enough microscopic carbon in it to eat :dunno and I mean eat filters. That may be where your power loss is coming from. I built a centrifuge for about $350. My son fabbed a heater for the side of it and seems to work fine. Depending on how hot the oil is and the flow we can get it clean enough to drink.

I dont know jack about centrifuge.....please tell me more. If you were to do it again, would you make your set up differently?
