New vs used fan clutch

My fan clutch is completely locked up on my 1993 f350 7.3. I do have a 1985 6.9 idi engine for parts but don’t know whether I should use the fan off it or just go ahead and buy a new one. How much resistance should the fan have with engine off to know whether it’s any good or not?

Hard to say. My brand new Motorcraft fan clutch only felt slightly stiffer than the probably original 1985 one. But the RV is running 180-185F at highway speed now. It was running around 190-200F before. I think it hurt my MPG (ugh) and I probably was fine with the old clutch but oh well. I kept the old fan clutch as a backup since it was, in fact, working... just not as well as a brand new one.

The old ones probably last longer then the new made in China garbage

Sounds good! I now considering wether to go without the fan for now at least until I need to do some heavy towing in the mountains.
