Try giving the latch a generous shot of oil my rear passenger side door on mine does that every now and again also it seems to be a warning of the door latch getting ready to crap out but they are fairly cheap I payed 39 and some change for the front drive last month

Have a 99.5 A4 and the rear door latch is intermttant with the power door locks. they say its. solenoid and grease getting old...
