I like the idea of this Redarc being built into the dash, out of the way, and not easily stolen. If it really does work in electric or electric over hydraulic mode without having to change settings that is a nice bonus. (No programming or forgetting to change over.) But I question how well it works as a dual braking system. (Can it do both Electric and Electric over Hydraulic well?)
I have the Tekonsha P3 as I found it really good at both electric and electric over hydraulic brakes. (I have trailers with surge disc, electric drum, and electric over hydraulic disk.) When you change between electric and electric over hydraulic the Tekonsha P3 controller does act very differently. (Applies less power and slower when in electric mode.) So curious how the Redarc handles the two types and how well.
Some other things I like about the P3-
I can move it truck to truck. (Buy one and put an adapter in each truck I own. I can remove if I sell the truck. Just unclip the wire connector and snap out of the controller holder.)
It works great, is very programable, and is sensitive. (3 boost modes and 10 settings per mode as I recall.) I can always find a setting where the truck and trailer work well together.
Other brake controllers I have used might start braking the trailer well but then eased off or pulled hard seconds later. Causing me to want to release the brake pedal and start the braking process again.
But will give them a look next time I need a new controller.
