are brass and copper even available anymore?

Ready-Rad Copper/Brass Radiator #432194

but iv had 2 fail.:(
replaced first @ 74k miles.failed at 100k miles.

i dunno when this second one failed.i didn't write it down in my records because i haven't replaced it yet.because of the lack of quality reports on almost all options,iv just been running this one since it's a very slow seam leak failure.id say it lasted about 10-15k miles before it started leaking.i go through 2 or 3 gallons per year keeping this one topped up.

i have an aluminum in my 350 and original in my 250 and they run the same temp according to to factory gauge, bet the aluminum doesnt last 20% of the original, are brass and copper even available anymore?couldnt afford one even if they were available
I'm sure it will last, maybe not as long as the original brass-copper rad or the second Modine brass copper rad did but, plastic tank rads have been in use for a long time.
A new brass copper is available for $600...one year warranty
To have my old Modine B-C recored would be $600 with only a one year warranty.
This Advance Auto rad has a limited lifetime warranty...if it fails down the road, they'll exchange for another new unit...I gotta go with what works for me.

yup this is true.you know what the alternative is?
you buy a newer truck and it cost more to buy, more to insure, more to maintain and when parts still fail (which they will, though perhaps not as often for a little while) it costs you more to replace the parts.....then if your lucky it's something you don't need a degree to understand so you can change it yourself.even then if it is easy enough to understand how,it's no fun at all to replace because you've to disassemble so many electrical connections, various other mechanical pieces which have nothing to do with what your working on,to just gain access to the part you need to replace.sometimes you'll just want to let a shop deal with it and there goes 2-4X the part cost on top of the part for a nasty repair bill.then eventually you'll get sick of that and dump it for a loss and find another idi truck.
so i just saved you thousands in the end by informing you, that your better off to keep your idi trucks...............your welcome.:)

Maybe they will, but probably they won't unless it fails within a couple months. I used to primarily use Advance and pay the premium for the "better" parts with limited lifetime warranty. You may as well cross out the lifetime and bold the limited. 9 out of 10 times they will tell you the part is worn out, not defective. If you walk in with a leaky radiator in two years they'll say it's worn out and refuse to replace. Pay for quality, not for warranties.

Anymore I try to find the best quality part I can even if it means ordering online and waiting a week. If it's a cheaper part and there is no OE or better quality replacement, generally online will be cheaper so I still order online and wait. I'd rather save a few bucks to put towards the replacement than deal with a worthless warranty from a weasely chain store.

That's because they don't keep warrenty records in store. Found that out with Bruiser's brake booster when it totally s***t failed and I was basically driving without brakes in single digit weather (and unplowed roads).

Receitp normally lists warranty, and if they still sell same PN it'll show same warranty (unless reduced) in computer as well as receipt. End result is same, lifetime warranty is worthless unless it fails very quickly, in which case you'd likely get it replaced regardless.

I'll respectfully disagree, My local parts houses see me, they know me...I've never had any problems even returning lifetime brake pads or shoes many times that were years old and wore out. Same thing with a ten year old water pump, alternator and air pump...local Pep Boys honored the warranty. Also, with places like Auto Zone and pep Boys and their 'rewards card' system...even if you don't have the paper receipt when you're in their rewards system computer database so is your warranty.
When rebuilding my Corvette's rear end I replaced all universals with the receipt in hand at Advance...no questions asked.

That's exactly why I went back to autozone. That and I worked there for awhile, so they know me well and tend to let me get my own stuff. But I've looked up family members warrenty info and found stuff from vehicles that I was barely old enough to remember.

theres a lot of truth to what you are saying,i have replaced a bunch parts on this truck and do like the truck.everybody thinks I'm nuts for messing with these old trucks but no payments and eventually i'll catch up with the maintenance that was ignored for years.if I was a mechanic it would be easier but I'm not,i have replaced a lot parts,do most of it myself and send it out when I don't know, summit has a cheap radiator under $200 delivered to the door and ill probably go that route if radiator is needed, still haven't confirmed it needs a radiator but I have some green on the edges, i'll check it out tomorrow suppose to be a high of 30 tomorrow, will be like summer time lol

Here's an odd and possibly stupid question, what's the availability of good PSD radiators? It doesn't have to be for a 7.3 either (altho looking at the '99-'02 ones they look awful close to what IDIs run), maybe even the later ones have something we can adapt without too much work? Them engines are much newer than IDIs, and they make lots more power and thus heat, so if we can use some of their stuff that should be a decent upgrade, right?
