What the heck size are those front tires? Look quite large... Nice truck tho, real nice. Btw if you're hating the pencil-thin of the steering wheel, go grab one from a 1991 or older E-series van, those usually have thicker rim and also bolt right in place of what you got now.

I'll look at the size when I get back home. I have cruise control on my steering wheel, does that matter with a 91 or earlier? Hopefully I can keep the fake wood grain insert

I got a trick-rim van steering wheel with cruise buttons and woodgrain laying round somewhere here, so they definitely do exist. IIRC it's about 1/2"-3/4" larger in diameter too, well compared to my brick wheel at least, may very well be the same diameter as yours tho.

Also, in our other conversation I forgot to mention that, but use heat shrink on every wiring connection you make. Electrical tape will just let go eventually especially with engine heat, the shrink tube tho will stay nice and tight sealing your connections well.

Cool, I'll keep a eye out. If your is easy reachable, I'll measure mine. Does "feel" thin. Way ahead of you on the shrink wrap. Harbor freight had a kit I bought.

Forgot to check the tire size, i'll look in the morning. Here is the photos of my build sheet. It was stuffed underneath the rail in the portion of the bench seat that folds forward. Remove the press board back, and viola! there it is. Worth looking at for those who haven't found theirs yet. For Clarification, it's in the seat back, not the bottom of the seat. I've seen the 80's fords put them under the carpet, thank god that didn't happen Happy broadcast sheet hunting!

Found the steering wheel, it's 15-1/2" outside diameter, and the rim is 1" thick. In comparison my brick XLT wheel appears to be 14-3/4 outside diameter and also 1" thick rim.

Hey welcome to the forum! Pretty truck you have by the way. I'm not sure about where those hose splices coming off of your supply/return lines would be for but im not diggin that return line system. I'd replace them with the return line kit like you said. As for the black smoke when your floggin' her is pretty normal with these older diesels....as long as its black smoke. Shes a good lookin ol' girl and hope you have good luck with her. Oh and the cherry build sheet is insanely awesome!;Sweet

I'll take a look at my steering wheel some more and decide if I upgrade. Thanks for the info! My tires are LT235 85R16, 80 psi cold. I've heard I should run them at 65 psi for comfort. Good idea? Would I need 80 pulling a uhaul trailer with a car? Lots of confusing info out there.

Rattleonby, you ever find your build sheet? Glad I found mine, truck feels near "complete" now if that makes sense.

I'll get some more photos of the return line splice soon.

No idea why that would be. I dont have much experience with factory or aftermarket turbo idi's. I dont really see a reason it should be spliced in there unless it was for more fuel return/pressure. Maybe some guys with some more experience may chime in here....

I'd lose that line altogether. I have two filters on mine (3 if we count the big one down under the cab) and none of them has a return line on it. Never had an air issue after filter replacement, I just prefill them then use the Schrader valves to purge the air. Mechanical lift pump too.

Tires, yours are the same size as mine. Actually mine are even wider than yours, the front ones at least. Same diameter tho. Reason I asked is the lip of the front fenders seems to be quite close to the tires tread... Must be the truck riding lower than I'm used to seeing. No matter, as long as tires sit straight vertical and not like /--\ then you're fine.

Pressures, I run 80psi in my fronts year-round. Makes for better handling, and I think less wear. Rears I run at around 65 psi when empty, and I up them to 80 psi if I'm gonna be testing out my rear suspension under heavy load. Car on a bumper-pull trailer shouldn't put more than 600 lbs weight on the tongue, which translates to less than 1000 lb on the axle. That's not much at all, definitely does not require going up to 80psi on the drive axle. May want the steer axle at 80 psi tho, just to stiffen it up some to make it more responsive to the driver. Best I can suggest is play with the pressures and see what you like most. Obviously don't go below what Ford wrote on the door sticker, or above what's written on the tires.

The line is supposed to bleed the air that remains trapped inside the filter head after a filter change. I never found them all that useful... Btw how many hoses attached to your #1 (front right) injector cap - two, or just the one with the T-ee?
