That doesn't seem like too much more blowby than mine has. That sound when you pulled the cap, that did raise my eyebrows.

Yep I've never noticed that before either. The sound from my phone doesn't do it justice. It really sounds like a tea kettle whistling, whereas the video gives it more of a grinding type sound

that really isnt an accurate way to check blowby, because you also have a crankcase vent that is pulling blowby, so you are only seeing a little bit of it.

plug/pinch off what ever hose you have for a crank vent and then run it with the cap off.

10-4. I more posted the video because the noise freaked me out. I can't say I've had the filler cap off many a times before with it running, but that whistling noise just doesn't sound right does it??

I guess I cant here the whistle, but the gear noise sounds normal.

Yea I noticed my iPhone didn't capture the whistle sound very well. It sounds fairly similar to a tea kettle with hot water in it. Think thats a peculiar sound?

This darn thing kept me up all night. I must have OCD.

I've experienced the whistle with the cap off. It is from the threads in the oil filler neck. Take a piece of paper, rolled up and cover the threads like a funnel. It should go away.

Thanks a ton guys for all the feedback.

I'm still fairly convinced part of the problem is an exhaust leak. I'm noticing now if I step into it hard, I hear a squeal coming from the exhaust some where (under pressure) so I'm going to get her an appt at the local exhaust shop and let them figure it out, no time to be messing with it myself right now.

Once the new injectors show up I'll toss those in the pickup and get rid of these ******* (aka. DPS Injectors)

As for blowby; I'll try and snap a shot/video the next few days. It seems to be more normal now after I did an oil change for some reason. (it was only at 3k miles on prior oil) But for good measure I'll get a video up here for the resident experts to judge the blow by amt.

With fuel on the glow plugs, it's a sure bet those DPS injectors are leaking. They may not be the only issue here, but they are playing a part for sure. Keep us up to date on the progress man.

Update:

So exhaust shop fixed a pinhole leak in a weld on my exhaust. he said he also noticed the passenger side manifold has a little leak at the manifold/head connection between the 2 middle cylinders. That seeems pretty wild! It would've had new gaskets almost exactly a year ago when we overhauled the top end. I have to admit I haven't bothered checking to make sure those bolts were still tight. If memory serves me, those are interference, right? I'm pretty cautious about EGTs, and never let this thing climb past 1200 degrees, and never sustain more than 1100. I wouldn't think unless I had a faulty gasket, that this would be a gasket failure

So I guess between moving crap out to the farm this weekend, I'll be fiddling around with those bolts. Think any local parts store would have a gasket in stock? Brand recommendations?

did fixing one pin hole make much differance in how the truck is driving?

keep the stock exhaust bolts if you can, they are much better than putting other ones in. they last longer and stay in better, not sure if its the threads or mettalergy of them but regular bolts seem to back out on these beasts.

I haven't picked it up from the shop yet so can't answer that one yet.

It's got the stock bolts in it now (at least I'm about 90% sure they are) Does anyone off the top of their head remember what size 12 pt socket that takes? I might run over and pick up the proper socket needed today before picking the pickup up. Also what is the torque spec for these?

Here is my take on your particular set of problems...

You have coked up fuel nozzles from making hard carbon from incomplete burn of the WMO... The chunks of carbon are making your fuel nozzles **** fuel rather than spray, so there is liquid fuel getting past the rings into the pan. The lighter [relatively lighter, since you are running WMO mix] is atomizing to "smoke" in the pan and under normal pressure in the bottom end of the engine... It want's out, so it tries to "blow by", which you are now seeing.

Do an oil change, pull an oil sample and have a lab look at it... betting you have oil dilution from fuel [are you running straight WMO, or a mix?, straight WMO might be hard for the lab to see].
Pull nozzles and pop test them.... watch the spray pattern... bet you have streakers..
