Hey all. Been a while since I've been online. Super busy with work and life.
My 94 has decided to give me a head ache. Just recently I have what sounds like either a
A. Lifter knock
B. exhaust leak
C. Failing IP
Symptoms include: down on power and boost. High egts. And this annoying knock when under just even a little load. I occasionally have a slight miss at idle, nothing serious just a hiccup every once in a while.
The IP is right at 1 year old with about 40k miles of heavy WMO blends. The electric pump keeps it at 9 psi all the time. The truck sounds a little different. I'm wondering if my timing has retarded some. Would retarded timing give this knock sound? I don't have the common hot start issue
Last weekend I did a little work on the pickup and tightened up the 4 bolts for the y pipe. They are snug. I don't think I have an exhaust leak unless it's at the manifold itself. I will check those this weekend.
I had the lifters replaced last year when we did the top end of this engine. I suppose one could have gone bad again?
At first I was worried about a head gasket. No coolant in oil or vice versa. Doesn't a seeping gasket have more of a deep thumping sound including at idle?
Ideas all?
Thanks!
