Pardon my ignorant too lazy to search self, but was this truck available in 4-wheel drive? And if so how robust is it? Got me rethinking the sidekick conversion
Are you talking my mazda? Mine was stock 4wd. My conversion uses stock drivetrain throughout, except the engine. By all accounts is seen\heard, the downfall of the Mazda trucks was limited options for lifts and other accessories. The g6 gas engine isn't spectacular. And if you get an 87 or 88, you don't have do anything but bolt the motor in. No adapter like I did.

Well, my alternator failed. I found one online that was for a newer rig sonit had higher output. I ordered it and installed it only to find I'm charging at 18v.
Whatever you do, avoid the Amazon seller "Parts Player". I am still in dispute with Amazon tryin to get my money back as the seller says I ordered a eurp market item and its incompatible with anything in this country.

Local rebuilder fixed it right up though. So at least my battery is charging now. ;-)

Well, it's been a good run
My motor died on me the other night. Driving down the road after a service call, I lost power, and felt like it was running on 3 cylinders. Pulled over and my valve cover gasket was blown out. Lost a piston or rings somewhere.

I have sourced a new short block and cylinder head from a Mitsubishi delica specialist. These are Hyundai factory pieces.

Or I could save $100 and get a head and short block(probably not made by Hyundai) from AliExpress.

Hmmm.

Well, I got an AliEx short block and head on the way. Also have a new set of injectors coming. Should all be here by the end of the month.

After the rally Steve has been asking round about how hard it would be to put a little diesel in the truck his father left us before he passed away ( a Dakota).
After reading how much fun you had in something similar... One can dream

We only have half that equation haha. I've only been back from the rally for 3 days and I've put in a million hours it feels like

Heat wave means $!

Super cool well detailed! I have a 87 Raider with a gas 2.8 runs good but I have been considering the swap too a 4D55/56 I heard similar reports that it bolts right in. I keep searching for those mitsi diesels but cant find one in my cheap price range haha.

Not to hijack but what about a VW diesel and some Toyota running gear? Might not fit into the "cheap" part but it would be a cool ride! There's a really good Facebook group: TDI Swapped Trucks, a lot of good information!
