My truck is all stock except for 34" swampers. It is a 4x4 7.3 5 speed, 4.10 gears with 186,000 on the clock and ideas of fuel milage on one of these trucks.

Fuel milage is controlled a LOT by how many RPM's you turn. Keep your R's down, and you'll go farther on less. People who turn less than 2K will always get better milage than folks turning over that. Overdrive and 4.10's or 3.54's figure heavily into the mix, as does if your torque converter locks up if you have an auto.

Those gears, tires, and lift will kill your MPG's. I know, I have done those mods many times before. Can you have 34's w/o a lift, I assume you have one? Either way, the tires and gears have affect.

my very own hell
His tires actually will help him more than they will harm him - while do hurt mileage by being larger, heavier, and likely wider than factory, and therefore having higher rolling resistance, they also help bring the engine speed done some while maintaining the same speed as before - with a diesel engine speed is more important than about anything else. I have a dually truck with factory rear tires but "super-singles" (265s) in the front, so I guess my overall rolling resistance is similar to what he has with his 34s, yet I can pull 20mpg all day long on a good day, hopefully with my new cold-air intake this will be slightly easier to achieve from now on. Lift yes, that usually hurts things a bit, however if he has an F350 truck he can run 34s without lift, so there is that. the ZF5 is always better for mileage as it has way less power loss across it than the E4OD due to not having to work to pressurize fluid and what not.

Bad.... at least for mine. It could just seem bad since I need to replace the pickups in the tank so I try to keep it above quarter tank. That and the rear tank is a little smallish... and I drive like an ******* :D

Edit: I havent checked actual mileage, kinda scared too. My truck has 3.54's and 33x12.5's

My truck and all of its 7600 lbs of hog-ness gets 13 mpg. Thats with 4.10s, 5-speed, and a very heavy flatbed and right foot. ;Sweet

I get 17.5-22mpg unloaded the few tanks I checked before my speedo went out. Thats keeping it under 2200 on the highway with 3.55s and 265/75/16s and engine stock as far as I know with diesel kleen in the fuel and 2 stroke oil.

i have 33 inch tires without a lift, and i think i could fit 35 with a little bumper trim. i can get close to 20 mpg most of the time, but when i hot rod it i get about 12-15:D
