Heath, FYI I just looked at my stripped 6.9 block and that plug is there under the oil cooler front header. Thanks for the pictures and writeup. I am following behind you with my own rebuild.

Gary, these exhaust valves appear to be available through several manufacturers. SB INTERNATIONAL (01542S), DYNAGEAR/MANLEY (AX2307), ELGIN (EX2307), and ENGINETECH (V2307S) They have a Stellite face. This info is per SB International's web catalog:
Exhaust; 1.595 Head Diameter,Stellite Face,NOTE: Recommend For Turbo Updated Engine. Valve Has 0.010 Larger Margin To Save Seat Replacement, Early Heads That Use C1 Valves W/ Large Margins Will Need Seat Replacement To Attain Correct Installed Height, +15 O/S Stem Available

Stellite is supposed to be more resistant to oxidation, temper softening, and thermal fatigue than standard steel valves. And from what I have been reading, an equal performer to inconel.

Waiting to hear back from Justin about a price on the valves. Will update when I find out.

Got my Comp 910's today. Should have my Clevite intake valves tomorrow.

I found an older photo and saw that plug there before the block went to the machine shop. Thanks again.

Thanks buddy. I just want this 6.9 to provide me with another 300,000+ trouble free miles hauling the 32ft fifth wheel with the family.

Got the exhaust valves ordered and they are going to be shipped directly to the machine shop. Thanks Justin for the help in getting those valves. I should have my intakes tomorrow.

Hope the heads will be done correctly and without too much delay.

My wife just called and told me my intake valves came in. Gonna leave the office in a bit and pack up the heads, valves, seals, and springs. Taking it all to Haas Machine in the am.

Wish me and my heads luck!LOL

You betcha he is... The first shop that "looked" at the heads did little more than that to them. How they can call themselves a machine shop is beyond me. Give a man what he pays for at least.. Give a little bit more and you will be rememberd well after you have left. Passing along what good service and afterthought goes so much farther than a shop that gives you the ***** and tells you to hit the road.. You already paid for it so get. I have been victomized by a few ****** shops like that.

Really a nice write up on the rebuild. Personally I've always used Stellite valves and the bronze guides. As Gary said about putting the heads on and checking for valve clearance, I put the heads on without the gasket and check for any head movement.
