Last spring I started and finished my Mitsubishi 4d55 swap into my 91 Mazda b2600i 4x4.
After racking up 12000 miles(on a motor that already had 225k and more blow-by than I wanted) I lost my #3 piston and\or rings. Not sure which died first.

I spoke with "the west coast 4d56 specialist" in New Westminster, bc to order brand new short block and head. Everything was good until he realized I'm 5th in line and he has 2 engines in the floor. All customers except 1 are from the US

So now, after realizing there is a hole in the market and I need to learn how to import new motors from Korea(and old vans from Japan) So i can become the Oregon 4d56 specialist,

I located on AliExpress(meaning they handle the import and duty stuff) a short block and head delivered to my door for $2200.

Let the fun begin.

Ouch that is a little pricey, you might call some of the local shops that import JDM engines, there are several in AZ, let them know you want to import to OR and ask them if they'll give you some advice and what you should expect to pay for those engines.

EDIT* if shipping is included that's probably not bad actually I'd still recommend making some phone calls to the pros local and out of state

That includes air shipping. $850 of the bill is shipping.
I did look into used JDM engines. Starting at $3000. This is all new parts.

I also looked at just getting a new truck. But I couldn't get a better 4wd little pickup for that. An DEFINITELY not a diesel so...

I have tracking and delivery dates for the end of this week. I've got to hurry to get the old one out.

The breakdown is like this:
AliEx bill:
$1000 short block
$689 shipping
$330 head
$155 shipping

Other vendors
$175 injectors
$70 oil pump
$69 water pump
$60 timing belt set

The same seller offered me off AliExpress 2 different short blocks. One had timing covers and valve covers(but no manifolds or IP) for $1700 and one naked(head and block only) plus $800 air freight shipping or $300 sea freight. But they did not deal with customs that route. I'd get a call from FedEx or DHL(if I asked air freight) asking for the money to cover taxes or I have to go pick up at port after clearing customs, and I couldn't get a handle on how much that would be and didn't want a surprise at the port.
So I went the AliEx route.

It's still a grand less than getting the same parts out of Canada. Only the block would have been a hyundai. The head would have been a Chinese head like I already have.

disclaimer here...
Toyota guy
Did the cv halfshafts cost more than the heep?:Thumbs Up

Question...With a donor rig all ya need is the longblock\head if doing an eng. Swap?
None of the eurasin stuff needs replacing like a half cut?

What flavor of manuals are offered?
Asking for the crawler build I'm dreaming of.

CV shafts were from Rock Auto and were $35 each, no core!

For the swap: to bolt the Mitsubishi diesel in my 1991 Mazda, I required the bellhousing and oil pan from a 1987 or 1988 Mazda b2600(these were powered by a gas Mitsubishi motor and the diesel bolts right up). I made a spacer for my transmission from the old bellhousing(if I did it again and didn't have the whole 1987 or 1988 truck to start with I'd likely get the whole transmission from the wrecker vs the bellhousing). I had to modify the oil pickuo tube and make motor mounts. (See https://www.oilburners.net/threads/my-current-obsession-1991-85-mazdabishi.84990/ ) the only thing used from the donor Dodge d50 was the motor. If I had felt like spending $4k out the gate I would have just bought a brand new Hyundai Kia D4BF fully dressed crate motor.

Since I did not, I had a couple options at this point.
A)Order said fully dressed motor for $4k plus duty\import fees.

The following options would require some level of using parts I had here from the donor motor:

B)Order fully assembled long block with timing and valve covers for $2600 shipped air freight plus import\duty fees
C)Order fully assembled naked long block for $1900 shipped air freight plus any duty\import fees
D)Order fully assembled long block for $1200 shipped sea freight plus import\duty fees

And finally the option I chose
E) order head and short block separate on AliExpress for $2153 shipped and assemble here. This option also allowed me the option of using the injectors I already have. But I opted for the new style head with new style injectors because I can't get old style ones anymore. And I wanted new injectors this build.

As for manuals I have found multiple factory and clymer manuals online.

Took the injection pump to Diesel Fuel Injection Services, the local Zexel\bosch service point. They said 5-8 days. Woohoo.

So you'll be cruising in about a week? Wish I could say the same haha
Hopefully. My 40th birthday is in 2. So it would be nice to have it done by then. It's already stretched out longer than I wished it would have...
