I posted before about me being suspicious of a boost leak and not much power on my 7.3 idi turbo. Truck only gets about 3 pounds of boost at full throttle
Its all around the little y pipe

Would these leaks cause my problems ?

I'd say yes. Without full exhaust pressure into the turbo, it (the turbo) won't be driven very well and won't produce much boost.

Now, after reading your other thread with post about the rag being pulled into the turbo, I'll say that all bets are off. If you can, fix your exhaust leak. If that doesn't do the trick, then it's time to look at your turbo.

There are no gaskets or donuts in any of those connections. Carefully see if anything will tighten up at all.

It's possible that these leaks were caused by the rag being pulled into the turbo and stopping it from spinning. That would have caused excess pressure in the exhaust and may have caused the exhaust to push out of these connections.

the pipe to manifold is a metal belled Connection, and the up pipe is a machined slip fit up into the turbo.

Also, just because they are black doesnt mean they are always leaking. Alot of connections like that leak some when cold.

Would be extremely lucky if the rag didnt mess up the turbo. Not sure it could cause exhaust leaks though.
