Note: this isnt about Star Wars robots....

I just wanted to do this "tech article post" just in case it comes up to any regular Oil burners that happens to burn gas sometimes...

So, I was about to take off from a stop sign the other day and all was fine until I went to shift to second and I had nuthin'. I was able to hit 1st again but then no second and then no first.... then just 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse, no 1 or 2!

Well, it's super easy and really common on the M5R2 or R1, for that matter, transmission to have the fork completely wear out and just slide over the top of the gear changer thingy (thats not the technical term) anyway, you can pop the top off the tranny in the truck and swap this stuff out. Pull the passenger seat and center console, roll the carpet back, remove the floor pan, easy peasy......

You can get a whole kit with forks and stuff to "rebuild" your whole top assembly. I opted to just buy s whole used assembly off ebay that has plenty of meat left on the 1-2 fork. Ill keep my old one and rebuild it at some point and swap them out, but not today. Here's a picture of the wore out fork.....

Ive only put about 2,000 miles on the truck since i got it, so it was mostly gone from the previous owner. I suspect that it wears out from the driver holding the stick up into 1st while you're going anticipating the shift into 2ond. First gear is way too high in the Mazda M5R2 transmission that Ferd put into the 88-96 F150 and Bronco, it was originally designed for a car.......but i luv my Ferds....even with their janky transmissions.....
