One other thought, is there a timing advance curve built into the IP?
Mike
there most certainly is......
and it's not as adjustable compared to what the durge boys are playing with on the 94-98 trucks.
So whatever "majic curve" there is, its certainly a closely held secrect by the builder.
I had a non-turbo towtruck that many people wanted to know how it ran as good as it did. Unfortunately the guy who built my pumps for me moved on to do other things. He never had a problem letting me watch him tear one apart and put it back together, but he never told me what tweaks he did to the internals.

THat's part of Kens secret recipe. The Fuel timing is changed. I believe it says that on his site?

I also mentioned Kens tuning to our local pump guy. He said there was not much you could do to these pumps, to get more performance out of them. I just took it as ignorance on his part.
Some peeps take the time, risk, and money to develope more power. They should be applauded, and reep the finacial benies of their efforts. I wonder how many times it took for Ken to get it "right"? Possibly loosing a motor, or two, in the process?

Yes, I'm running the turbo calibrated pump on my motor. I bought it from Diesel Injection Service in Texas. I hear they have changed hands and name now but still the same otherwise.

I believe that the guy is giving you what he knows.
I have Ken's stuff, and it has really changed the truck. And his prices are not that much more than the non built items.

Shoot, I don't know yet. I haven't been able to keep my foot out of it long enough to get any accurate fuel mileage readings! I'll let y'all know after tomorrows trip to go rockcrawling- I'll be towing my trailer and my crawler, and will have some good numbers then.

You are not harvesting all the power out of a diesel unless you are rolling smoke. I know that mine will start to roll smoke pretty easy but then as I continue to push on the skinny pedal some more I get more power output. So calibrating it so that it does not smoke is not performance "best".

I tend to agree, you see that all the older diesels on the highway in over the road applications blow some black, and that's OK. I would do that and enjoy it without any guilt whatever. But you could for sure setup an IDI to blow black where its just making a lot of smoke, not much of a power gain. Such as turning the fuel way up on a NA IDI. I'd say a little black smoke on hard accleration and climbing hills means its working like it should. Sooting out the guy behind you everytime you hit the go pedal even a little, that's fine by me if that's what you like, but not for me.

Thanks!!

You can get a performance injector pump by PM'ing Agenem for a Moose Pump or going here www.dps-performance.com and trying to get a hold of Ken if you can. Pros on Mel: we all know him, he's reliable, trustworthy and probably not to hard to reach; cons, he is a couple hundred bucks more expensive and you have to give him a core in advance. Ken: pros, he's been building built pumps for a few years and he has an exchange program. He's also about $200 cheaper depending on how good your core that you give Mel is. He's also difficult to get up with more often than not. So far I'm happy with the job he did on my turbo rebuild... I'm not to sure about the Stage 1 injectors, they change the spray pattern a lot, to the point where they almost dump fuel into the cylinder. The do keep the right pop off pressures though. Mel says that you can test them for pop pressure but not for spray pattern. He said something about a Moose injector being offered at some future date. I haven't heard anymore about it. Take care,
JD

Ken's pump has held up ok so far, but his injectors didnt last a month in my truck. He never would answer my calls to correct the fuel injector issue, and I ended up having to purchase new stock injectors just to get my truck to run. If you're looking for hotrod parts, I'd get hold of a moose pump.

So far as I can tell, Ken is a con-artist and a thief. I gave up on getting anywhere with him months ago. It took him almost 2 months to get me my stuff, and even then it wasn't right...
