Guys, the little plastic pads at the ends of the leaf springs. Are they available? What real function do they serve besides just keeping the springs from banging together? Is it noticeable? Anybody just 86 em?

Thanks!

To reduce friction so the springs flex more easily and also to reduce squeaking and noise. Oiling them helps make them last longer and oiling spring packs in general helps them move more freely and obviously helps fight rust.

I've got my spring packs apart cleaning them up for paint. They are pretty well shot so I figured while I have it apart would be a good time to deal with them or ditch them.

typically when i rehab sprngs they are broken apart and long gone. you can get them from a spring shop but i typically clean all the rust off the leafs and paint them with a coat of rustoleum...then a coat of graphite paint that farmers use for plows. you can get it at tractor supply in a green can with the plow parts (dirt plows)...

then i also grease them lightly

they will make noise if you have bumpy roads, mine don't have any in the front leafs and i can hear them clacking away, not it has to be pretty bumpy, sadly were i live the dirt roads are smoother than the paved roads so i hear it most of the time

Okay. Sounds like replacement is in order although it is going to be mainly a pavement queen. I may hit it with the graphite paint and a little lube. I like that idea.

Thanks guys.

I also ditched the pads and did the graphite paint as suggested. Green can in the farm section.

damn, kind of wish I'd of looked harder. I'd of put them back in for 1.50 a piece. Still might if they make noise.
