Hi gang! Leaving the opinions on whether or not a well-oiled K&N Filter is a good idea or not. I have a question about the fitment of the 33-2088 element. The stock element fits inside of the ears on the airbox the pictures that I have seen of the K&N show that it goes over the ears.

It looks to me like it fits around the ears and doesn't require longer studs or any more clearance. Can someone with first-hand experience please verify this for me? Many thanks...

The thing is a drop in, they designate a new pn. And design to beat copyright law.
As far as I can tell.
Edit, i did NOT run the pn you posted.
My ats non ford box accepts a kn listed for it...

Yes it fits the factory ATS setup. The molded rubber "rings" go around the base spacer studs. I run one of these having lost my first motor and turbo due to dust inhalation according to those who rebuilt them in an arid, dusty region of Colorado. Does it help? IDK, but doesn't seem to cause problems

i have the same part number air filter on the Nostromo. I did go one step further. I took the foam prefilter from the wix filter and put it in the air filter housing bowl before putting in the K&N. I figure a little extra prefilter never hurt noone. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES do you put it in the curved air filter housing. I had one idiot do that and the turbo had it for lunch. They wanted me to pay for a turbo and I told them to go ahead and try to sue me.

I didn't, but no dyno. I wouldn't expect any as it matches the factory filter is size and appearance for all practical purposes. My concern was filtering effectiveness. I do hate the cleaning, drying, and reoiling hastle although this one is relatively easy.

As long as it's well-oiled, it should catch lots of dust... but it'll fill up much quicker.
Even so, I don't think they are any better at catching particles than a paper filter... but flow better(at first).

I stick with nice cheap paper filters. It's more than good enough filtration for these motors.

I'm curious, if it fills up quicker when the paper filter doesn't, where does all that dust and dirt go? Does it settle out in the filter housing, go through the engine, or come back out the intake? I'm not trying to start the proverbial oil versus dry battle, I've just have never heard a valid argument against using oiled filters unless a vehicle has a mass air flow sensor or other emission sensors before the intake.

If you are increasing flow without changing the surface area of the filter then you are decreasing filtration quality, simple as that.

Imo, if you want to run an oiled filter you might as well just put a window screen over your intake, otherwise doing away with the stock air box so you can use a larger filter is the best thing you can do.

thanks to the CDR, my K&N remains very will oiled, thank you.
that is one thing I don't need to be worried about the element getting sucked dry from the intake airflow. How is this possible? All I can say is you've never heard the decel bark on my truck.
