Hey I think there will be this debate on whether oiled gauze filters can ever adequately do the job that paper filters do or not. Having said that I use an SB oiled gauze filter, so far so good it seems. At least I don't see any signs of the turbo not working such as scary noises or lower boost or more smoke/less power. Also my ATS came with a K&N filter, the compressor wheel was trashed, and it needed a new bearings/seals kit as well. I know icanfixall had SB make a filter for his Banks Sidewinder so they certainly know how to make them at SB for a Banks system by dimension. Some here think all oiled gauze filters ultimately flow too well and shorten turbo life spans significantly. Punkmechanic says he saw this with Vdubs here in FL and with Ford diesels at his current job. That's not encouraging, but if K&N is not doing a good enough job then there would be a lot of bad filters out there. There is plenty of evidence that there IS a problem. The question is, is the problem poor QC at K&N, user error, such as not sealing the airbox properly and.or incorrect cleaning and oiling or is it that oiled gauze just is not nearly as good as paper at filtering air for engines and that they truly do flow "too well" IE a lot of dirt and small abrasives along with all that air.
