So I pull into work on Monday and I notice that the truck was not in it's regular place behind the locked gate. My first thought was, "where did I leave the truck?" And then remembered that I wasn't driving it this weekend. Then I thought that my son or a buddy was using it. Then I noticed that the lock on the gate was gone.

So all of the work I did to rebuild the engine and transmission, fixing the brakes and polishing the wonderfully straight body (ask icanfixall, he's seen it) was for nothing. An entire year of writing letters and getting paperwork straightened out between Virginia and California with the help of a widow and her daughter. Some rat decided it was too good for me to keep. The cruise control worked like a charm. I'll never know about the A/C, it hadn't been charged yet. I put 1000 miles on that truck. That's it.

Well, the skunk will have the smoothest running 6.9 in gangland or Mexico or wherever it went. I am seriously bummed and have so many other parts in the shop that I never installed. I hope I never find out who did it, because my first reaction is to plug him and feed him to the fish. But that's not right, it was only a truck. But it was my truck.

Sorry to hear that. Worthless piece of debris. I always have thought no one would steal one of these old things. Maybe I should be more careful.

Only the illegals steal them, look for landscapers and some crappy paint job that looks like your truck, shoot first ask questions later and have some spare guns. just fantasizing here,

the sad fact is these trucks are very popular south of the border. his prolly got loaded into the back of a semi and hauled across. honestly, in sokal, the time window for industrial equipment is four hours after the theft occurs before it hits the border. I lost my frieghtliner three axle the same way. I pulled in from Vegas into Fontana and stopped to get food and cleaned up. No AC in the cabover.cookoo Came out from getting cleaned up only to discover the truck, trailer and load gone. just plain gone. Reported it stolen. Got a call from BP two days later asking me questions. Turns out they went across with a completely bogus shipping manifest and the stolen report was just recieved by BP.....yee haa.-cuss-cuss-cuss-cuss-cuss

i hope whomever stole it gets injured traumatically when trying to disassemble it or whatever they're doing with it. :backoff if someone ever touched my scout and i caught them i'd be locked up for a very long time b/c i'd give them a few doses of lead....

I'm sort of at the far other northeast corner of the US, but I hear from reputable sources that theft of trucks is rampant in Montreal (especially trucks visiting from the US), and apparently they're swiped by organized crime, put quickly in containers, and shipped off to markets in S. America, etc.

These older trucks probably have a lot of appeal in those 'other markets' as they are much simpler to work on/ keep going than newer trucks.

My truck is in unusually nice shape for its age, so I do have worries that it could someday be a target if I take it on a trip to urban areas.

Along those lines, anyone have suggestions on reasonable ways to make one of these relatively theft-deterrent without getting into all sorts of exotic/ expensive alarms? I hear that "the club" type steering wheel locks are useless, as the thieves just saw through the steering wheel with a cordless sawzall and take them off.

Thanks

Very sorry to hear about your truck. I know the feeling and it sucks bad having something stolen you put time, money and love into.

Put a hidden manual switch for the FSS, another for the fuel pump if you have an electric unit, you can install yet another switch for the alternator trigger so that they run out of battery power if they manage to take the truck...

Thats awful, I get sick thinking about someone stealing my vehicles. I think I will be adding a cutoff switch for the FSS this year.
