Many of these thefts are "inside jobs" by someone you know or someone that you met on your property, maybe while you were working on the truck.

It's not easy to make something completely "steal proof" without it becoming onerous to start every time you want to go somewhere. A battery disconnect switch on the battery posts is one of those, but easy to spot. Every thing you do to slow them down helps. They do not want to hang around for 15 minutes troubleshooting why your truck won't start.

If your truck is an auto with the e4od if you could shut off the power to the computer it would probably stop someone from driving it off. Wouldn't help if they were prepared to trailer it though.
I like the idea for the dummy starter solenoid. With that and a hidden switch for the FSS it might take longer than they want to hang around. Maybe a hidden solenoid to reroute the fuel back to the tank bypassing the ip?

It sux about your truck. I hope it never happens to me!
Keep looking, you never know what can happen.

E4OD can be driven with out the computer, it will just shift hard.

I like the idea of using a dummy starter solenoid and hidden switch....only wire the dummy solenoid to a set of air horns both in the cab and outside...nothing like waking up the neighbors and going deaf when you try to start it.

Seriously, when I used to be into the pro-audio show scene (real autosound, not spl bass-head crap) I learned that you coulnd not stop a car from being stolen, but if done properly you could put the thief in a lot of pain, and make them work for it. The down side is when one of my cars got broken into the guy drilled the battery which killed the external siren, a simple drivers seat trigger, delay circuit, and 6 125db industiral fire alarm horns caused him to **** in my drivers seat.....the car was still there sans the battery and a piece of under dash trim. As my best friend said, he must have been pissed...I thougt it was funny as hell...well woth the $200 bucks to replace the damage done

Now I know what I'm doing! Although I might omit the inside horn, I know I'm going to turn the bloody thing to start by accident one day! ;Sweet

Dummy solenoid

It is interesting that someone should think of this. My first truck, the white dragon, had a relay built into the starting system by the former owner, a friend of mine. This was because the starter didn't engage the flywheel ring gear completely, and after 200,000 miles, there was no starting it. So, instead of changing the ring gear and all the work that takes, he cut the battery cable to the starter and attached the ends to a relay so that you had to cycle the keyed switch to set the starter gear, then push a button under the dash to engage the motor. I got to like it, knowing that no one would think to try a two step starting effort. I even thought about putting it on the silver truck, but ran out of time when selling the white dragon. Shoulda taken the time, then I wouldn't be singing the blues here.

you can utilize almost any alarm system from dei (directed.com they manufacture under several different names. then hit mouser for either emergency exit or fire alarms...both operate in the 12v range, and either an auxiliary battery or a lantarn battery in a seperate location. in the easiest form, use the starter battery to hold a relay open between the aux bateries and the internal sirens, and then run a leg from the alarm (alarming) output. If the batteries get cut the system still sounds.

On one of my show cars I used emergency exit alarms (can dig up the part number if you like), they are about the diam of a quarter, and 1" thick, and 115db. One in each AC duct and 2 more in the defroster vents. Each AC vent has its own fused power source, and the defroster vents are on their own. They can sound for about an hour before going dead....mass overkill considering the car WILL page me as soon as someone F's with it, but seeing as I have close to $10k in it on the wholesale side, if someones gonna take it they need to prove to be smarter than me, and faster than a round from my sig45.

There are also a lot of very slick ways to make sure you dont get caught by your own system, but I dont want to hi-jack this thread further.
