I have a 6.9 with a banks sidewinder turbo and a c6 with a low stall converter.. I also have a heavy @$$ trailer and I couldnt get it to stay above 40 to 45 going up decent hills is this normal?? I would think a 454 or 460 would haul up the same hill I could in a 99 half ton silverado with a vehicle on it.. This is my first diesel and so far im disappointed..

A 454 or a 460 would... and get you about 5mpg doin it. Is your fuel turned up with the turbo and do you have gauges?

it depends on how heavy the trailer is and what grade the hill is,even a new powerchoke would have a problem in these circumstances

something sounds wrong somewhere,i would change the fuel filter to start, maybe turn up the pump a bit but make sure you get a pyrometer so you dont have a meltdown

sounds like there is much cleanup and prep you need to do with the truck before you throw a load onto it.
post a pic of the stuff you got going on under the hood.
even the IDI's got advancements in aftermarket turbo tech.

one more thing....
I'm going to throw the B.S. flag on saying the chev 4.8 and 5.3 has more guts towing a load. they feel torquey when running empty, but they do die off when under a load.

At my altitude, 4500ft and up, the 454 was unbearably slow, whereas the 6.9 with the Banks has no issues and does it without sucking the fuel. ;Sweet

you may want to read some of the threads on here how to do some of this, but to breifly answer is turn up fuel in the injection pump, prometer goes into your exhaust manifold, and be careful not to get air into your injector lines when u change your fuel filter, this sight will tell you anything you want to know if u search it.good luck
