Well the shop that put it in the IP is not a diesel shop, its a regular auto shop. The truck runs and starts fine but i drove it when my brother first got it and i couldnt believe how fast it was.But the mechanic told my bro that he would save him $700 if he rebuilds it.Well we didnt know much about diesels so he told him to do it.I know now he got robbed.

Boy did he ever get robbed. :puke: God only knows what they did to it. Just hope when your Brother took it off, He didn't remove the tower, that could get the drive gear way out of time. Ask how He did it, may clue us in on what the loss in power is, and possibly the timing.

The HF digital meter is a good one. Only trouble is The ON/OFF switch is easily turned ON, kept having to change the 9 volt battery til I put a guard over it. :D

There is one easy correct way to change a pump. Did the gear cover get pulled or not, And did the shop send it out to be rebuilt or do it in house.

Well untill we know for sure that the pump, gear cover and gear were not removed as one piece then we really can't help much. But for sure a non diesel shop can't properly rebuild nor calibrate one of these pumps without spending $25,000.00+ on a claibrating machine.. Then actually knowing how to use one properly wont happen on a one time use. We can talk you thru an injection pump removel and replacement. I even have a viedo of how to do it. Towcat suggested early on in this post to buy the Uhaul pump for $270.00 with free shipping. They are know to be a quality rebuild and some members here bought 5 or more of them at that price... Just in case of needs down the line.. At this point in time that is my suggestion. Either that or the pump is not timed on the gear properly. But you will need to tell us thats how the pump was removed before we can help you fit that possible issue. Sorry for being kinda vauge on the low power issue but more info is needed. We don't judge ignorance here. We help to inform those that need the help... There was a time when none of us had the knowledge we have now as a collective.. I guess we are becoming something like the Borg for those that like star treck... I wifey is a follower and it drives me insane sometimes....:D

Thanks for the info ICANFIXALL.The truck was taken to that mechanic when my brother owned it.So i dont know if he took the gear cover off or not.But dont get me wrong the truck starts and runs smooth. When i drove it home from my brothers house i had it on a stretch of road and floored it,it kicked down and rpm's went up and didnt go any faster and the biggest black cloud of diesel smoke i ever seen came out the exhaust. So i stayed in it and it started to pick up speed and the smoke cleared up.Whats strange is it wont blow smoke like that anymore. Now the only thing i have done to it is turning the fuel up 2 flats and took the muffler off.Any idea why it blew that smoke out,now it wont? And being its turned up 2 flats and it didnt do anything, thats not right.

What you probably did when your "stayed in it floored" is you blew out some soot that collected in the exhaust system. Thats my guess. Now how did you turn it up two flats. Removing the side cover on the passenger side of the injection pump is the only way to turn up the fuel to the engine. I'm just covering all the possible areas of unanswered questions. Nobody is poking fun at you on this site. We ask questions to form a better answer. Nothing is concidered dumb or stupid around here.
