I thought the Banks cooler being made for a Powerstroke might cool better than the ATS version designed for an IDI. I don't know how intercoolers are compared or how they are rated. What numbers do you need to know to decide the size of intercooler needed?

Has anyone on here made custom intake/air filter setups?

you have the piece that's no longer being made by ATS.
if you can handle the cost of $1300, call ATS and they will sell you the rest of the kit that will bolt right in.

I don't think you have enough stuff on the suburban  :rotflmao

cool air coming in is a good thing, but irregardless how cool the air is, getting compressed by the turbo will heat up the air. the intercooler takes care of that problem. generally a IC will take 2-300deg of heat out of the compressed air. lower air temp= denser air=more power and lower egt's. best thing it's a passive power adder and requires almost no maintenance.

Exactly what he said. ;Sweet

That is the piece.

Banks makes a cooler for the 94-97 powerstrokes. I was thinking about retrofiting it to my IDI since they are the same body style and building my own plumbing.

That's a good idea I never ven thought of that one before. But anyway I made mine using a big ebay intercooler and a piping kit and trimmed the piping down to size. It works alright but blow boots off once in a while. What all do you guys think can be done to prevent this? I have decent clamps on it so idk.

88 Ford,

I have heard some of the SuperDuty Guys that have issues with blowing boots take a can of hairspray and spray the metal tube before they put the boot and clamp on. It acts like an "adhesive" to make the boots stick to the boos tubes......

War Wagon-

If you for some reason don't end up using the ATS "Hershey Kiss" intake adapter, and want to sell it, let me know. They don't make those anymore, and it was the only piece they couldn't supply when I bought my Intercooler kit from them. I fabbed one up to make my IC work, but it isn't the prettiest thing in the world, and I'd like to have the correct part to complete my kit.

If you do use it- Good for you! An intercooled truck makes a huge difference in driveability!

Thanks man. I'll try that. A while back I used some sort of adhesive but don't remember what I used. But I'll try that for sure. Its just confusing cus I only have the boost set at 12lbs. Somethin to try though.

And War Wagon,
Do you know a guy named Justin Jackson? He works for Homeland Security up there.

3M makes a spray adhesive called Super 77. Spray both pieces, wait 90 seconds, push the boot on and tighten the clamp. I sure hope you don't ever have to take it apart...;Really

88 ford alot of people will either bead roll the edge of the tube or weld a bead all the way around the tube so the clamp has something to bite into

I need to do some R&R on the Banks and ATS coolers as well as others. Where would I get a "piping kit"? I have the pipes and boots form a 6.0L as well as some other random boots from other pickups or kits, but I haven't even looked to see how they would fit.

I looked at some piping kits on ebay. Am I better off with 2.5 or 3 inch? I don't know if I want to go with the ATS set up. It uses small tubes. From what I'm reading about the ATS kit it is 2.25 tubing into the cooler which is 2.5 in and out. Then 2.25 back to the engine. I'm sure it works fine, but I don't understand why they would neck the plumbing down.

I also sent a messege to Banks asking them about my idea. Hopefully I get some good feedback. The Banks cooler is 3" in and out.
