okay so those plastic inner fender wells up front, has anyone just puled the nasty insulation off them?

Seems its there to protect that inner fender from being heated/melted/fatigued by the engine/headers heat.

On my truck the insulation is deteriorating. It looks like sh*t and i have the slosh tubs out right now.Think its okay just to pull it and toss it?

I dont want to be counterproductive by pulling/tossing the insulation

thoughts?

I pulled it on my crewcab. Stuff was nasty and I figured I wouldn't find new ones. Also figured it would help keep down corrosion. I'm not sure how much noiser it will be though as there's no interior.

Fiberglass isnt suppose to absorber water but its so broken down now its like a sponge. I dont want the slosh tubs to dry and get brittle from heat but this stuffs nasty and falling apart, doesnt seems its doing any good anymore.

i wish it wasnt winter adnmy money tree was blooming, id just find aluminum slosh tubs ha

Aside from heat insulation do you guy's think it helps keep the noise down?

I'm considering pulling mine as well.. it's in rough shape.

Helps with noise some yes, probably serves fire-retardant purposes as well (like the the hood blanket), at least when it was new. If it's in good shape keep it, if it's dead ditch it, it will hold water every day it rains and you know where that can lead. There are generally better noise/heat insulation products available now (Dynamat, Fatmat, etc) for interior use, may wanna check if they are suitable for use inside the engine bay as well?

My driver side one got soaked with power steering fluid. So I ripped it out. Looks a lot better now.
Can't really say it's noisier. Pretty quiet in my cab anyways.
I didn't pull it from the passenger side yet, as I'd have to remove some stuff.

Yup, I want to replace mine too. This summer. Its too cold now. What has anyone been using to replace it?
Fyi that my right side were I relocated glow plug controller to. I fabricated that stainless bracket for it. I re routed the wiring harness to the front of engine to get it out from under turbo and away from its heat.

One of the few advantages bricks have over OBS - on that fender there is a nice steel plate, think of it as a table for all your electric items mounting needs. Insulated from the rest of the truck too, unless you want it grounded. If you plan on adding some more things to that general area (relay boxes for example), you may wanna look into grabbing one such plate off a bricknose truck and bolting it into yours.

I just took it out and left it bare. Cleaned up the engine compartment a bit by doing so. It might have made it a bit louder but not enough for me to notice
