I recently changed my injectors. 7 of the 8 where clean as a whistle (see first picture). However the injector from cylinder #4 (remaining pictures) has definite soot/carbon on it. The strange thing is I'm not sure it leaked past the copper O-ring, the pattern of carbon looks like it came from the side. Do I have a crack in the casting/head around the injector?

Let me know what y'all think.

Pull the cap off the bottom of the injector and look at the nozzle for discoloration, if it’s discolored from heat I’d say it’s likely the seat in the head leaking, there’s a reaming tool you can use to repair the seat and get a good seal every time.

Ditto what Wes said, also the injector threads are not liquid tight so any oil or coolant or whatever that sits on the injectors long enough will end up in the bore and get cooked.
