good morning everyone. havent really posted much, or worked on a vehicle since I lost the truck a couple years ago but I need to change the pump and injectors on my sons truck and had a question.

My son has an 86 that we picked up from towcat a few years ago, originally for my brother in law. My son bought the truck from him over a year ago and until now it's been trouble free up until recently. Looks like it's time for a pump and injectors.
I'm not seeing the Delphi name on eBay anymore for new injectors but instead, they're stanadyne. I thought stanadyne wasn't doing injectors anymore for these things.
Anyway, I know not to buy rebuilt injectors on there, cause they're not but if someone can point me in the right direction for a new set, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Is that the truck and engine above your referring to? You sure it's not a 6.9L?

I would check with Conestoga Diesel for recommendation.

IDI Performance, Conestoga Diesel and Typ4 here on the forums all sell good quality injectors. I don't recommend buying from anyone else at this point.

Pretty sure it had a transplant. The valve cover says 7.3 also.

I'm more just interested at the moment to satisfy my curiosity of the Stanadyne name I'm seeing on eBay everywhere.
Is stanadyne making injectors for these again? Or did they never stop? All my years in the IDI game, it was Delphi.

get a hold of Russ/typ4 via pm. he'll fill you in on the latest on the stadynes on fleabay.
I bought a set of stadynes(sp) from him and am grateful I did. he did a balance test before shipping and found one lazy injector. most of the stuff hitting fleabay is very old stock and there is no telling how they were stored over the years.
yes, the truck has a 7.3 in it.

If you buy injectors from a seller on E-bay, they probably have not been pop tested even if they are new. You could have a bad one one right out of the box. I bought a set of Stanadynes from Russ (typ4) a few years agao. He pop tests them and sends you a set that pop at similar pressures (within 50psi IIRC) so you get a smoother running engine. He also stands behind what he sells, unlike many E-bay sellers. Even if you do end up buying a set of jnjectors from E-bay, get them pop tested before you install them so you know all are good.

I would go with the stanadynes on eBay that are brand new. I bought a set for my rig and they performed much better than the delphis.
Wasn't too impressed with my set of delphis after 4 of them were pretty much junk & needed to be rebuilt after 10k miles.

Can't beat this price.

where would you get them tested? The shops around me look at me like I have 3 eyes

Angelofish sells a good product Kenny as do Russ and Mel. Best injectors are going to cost more simply because they are better than the bargains seen on ebay. But the mentioned ebay seller is fine. Best bet is to replace the pump along with the injectors. A weak pump will have issues trying to pop open a new injector because our injectors wear down the spring pressure over time. they begin to mis fire around 1400 lbs. New code bb pop at 1850 like many others but. the G codes pop at 2200 lbs. G codes on a well worn pump will kill it quickly. Sometimes thickening up the fuel with motor oil or ATf fluid gives you a little more time on the pumps too .. the thicker fuel is easier to pump when the internal tolerances get to big to pump the thin diesel fuel.

Justin @ R&D tested this - they are actually 1800 PSI as well.


Also, as for testing injectors... Just buy a pressure tester off ebay!
You can get them new for around $150 or so, and it's all you need. Just hook the injector up, pull the handle slowly and see where the injector pops and closes.

What matters more than exact pressure is where they are relative to each other. As long as they are consistant, timing can be adjusted to compensate.

IMO stay away from EBay for injectors and pumps contact the guys on this forum who deal in them. Them have a proven track record and stand behind their stuff!

Like He says, only place I would get my injectors from! Delphi actually stopped making injectors for the IDI, I have a set of New BB code from Russ (typ4) in my basement ready to go in.

For a pump I would go IDI Performance or Conestoga Diesel.
