So folks, I need some major help, I left my truck in NC with a friend while I went to NY for some family vacation time (89 f250 7.3 idi c6 4x4 lariat) and I come back and;

No power steering (assuming just a line)
No cruise.
Drives window goes down not up
Hard start
No wait to start or anything from glow plugs
More white smoke than I care to admit
Low oil
Normal coolant
One very angry owner.

So first thing I tried to do was trouble shoot my hard start, got the GP's going, and still very very hard to start even at around 50°. This got me thinking. Is it possible I need new rings?

As for the power steering I've got that covered. I could use some advice in the cruise control area, and I've gotten the window to work sorta. But if you could weigh in on either the cruise control, or the hard start/white smoke/piston rings possibility I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance

#1. Check the condition of batteries. Are they at full charge? Should test at 12.3 VDC or higher after setting overnight. Effects hard start, engine not turning over fast enough. Windows slow.

#2. Check vacuum Hg., should be 22 inches of HG with engine running. Effects Cruise and C6 shifting.

#3. Low oil. Of course you have added oil to bring it up in the dip stick hash marks.

#4. Forget about the piston rings. White smoke is caused by hard start. Could be air intrusion. Depress Schrader valve on filter for full flow of fuel while cranking.

#5. Gp's should have a 5-7 second cycle time @ 50*F. then an ON/OFF for a minute or more, but may stop after engine is started.

Report back.

Can you tell us what fuel this "friend used? How many miles on the injectors and injection pump. How many miles on the engine. White smoke is retarded timing or unburned fuel out the tail pipe. Can you run some fuel conditioner thru the fuel system. That may clean up the injectors and injection pump too. Some like a couple quarts of trans fluid in the fuel or a heavy double dose of fuel treatment. Try th e some fuel treatment in maybe 5 to 10 gallons of fuel. Drive it and see if things clean up.

Alright thanks for the suggestions guys! As soon as I'm home I'll try, and he used the standard pump fuel. Not gas or kerosene. Also the fuel delivery system has been replaced withing the last 10000 miles, motor was replaced about 105000 miles ago, new Trans 30,000. So it's pretty new. New glow everything withing the past 6 months. And what was that about vacuum testing?

Put your truck info in your signature, that way we don't have to go back to your post or remember what you have.

And what was that about vacuum testing?

The cruise won't work with low vacuum.

You have to have a vacuum gauge to check the vacuum, it is calibrated in inches of vacuum. Start the engine up and have the gauge connected to any vacuum line, then see what it says. If it's real low, you might have a vacuum leak, truck that old can have leaky hoses.

Does the heater controls work OK? There vacuum controlled.

Have you got a hard brake? Low vacuum to the brake booster.

straight elcheapo walmart 2cyl oil supertech brand i believe...

if you change the fuel filter fill it with ATF..start the truck for a few seconds then shut it down and let it sit overnight like that. the detergents in the ATF will help keep the deposits in the injection pump and injectors at a minimum

also that drivers window issue (if its electric) is the little barrels in the motor are probably gone and have crumbled. you can find these in the help section on the parts store...or you can buy a window motor rebuild kit from ebay cheap.

Alright guys sorry for the long reply, I've been working something crazy. So, I ended up getting her to run 2 nights ago, she started right up with full batteries and everything. Then the next day she just wouldn't even budge. It would crank and crank but it wouldn't start. Then today I had the batteries charged overnight and on my lunch tried to get her to start. After two cranks it wouldn't do anything. I would turn the key and nothing would happen. I have power to everything else. I just hope I didn't fry something expensive, trying to save some cash at the moment. I'm pretty lost when it comes to electrical, so if any of you have some video that would help me it would be really appreciated.

When you posted.. "It will do nothing:... Please explain this. If you have white smoke out the tail pipe this tells me the timing is way retarded or the glow plugs are not working. Many reasons for glow plugs to not work. They can be burned out. They may not be getting power because of a bad power feed or a failed controller.

So, I have replaced my glowplugs, but the light won't kick on. I just checked them again with a multimeter and I wasn't getting the right voltage going to them. Any chance some of you have a picture of the wiring? The p.o. rewired this truck with the help of a five year old. It's pretty bad. Also, where are common grounds? Because upon extensive line tracing I have found that only 1 battery is powering my system, but there isn't a break in my cable or anything in that nature.
