I saw a post on here from a while back about Hypermax's thousand dollar head gaskets for the IDI. I just bought a set for my buildup and so far I'm pleased with what I see. They are constructed of what appears to be a graphoil (or similar) material like what is used on small engine head gaskets, with each of the water and oil passages surrounded with rubber. The cylinder sealing is accomplished with "C" rings which are like a hollow "O" ring with the inner part cut away. Inside the C is a coil spring which exerts pressure on the head and block. The block ONLY is machined with a receiver groove for the ring to sit in, and support spacers are provided to install in the water passages that are close to the cylinder before machining, and a technical drawing is provided so your machinist knows exactly what to do. The idea with the c-ring is that the more pressure the cylinder is under, the harder it seals. Time will tell how she does, but I'm impressed so far with the quality. They tell me this is the exact same setup used on the inline pumped, compound turbo drag truck they built years ago, and running over 100psi boost never had a problem (with head sealing anyway). I doubt the S400 I'm going to use will be able to blow them then (and yes, I'm running lowered compression 17.5:1).
Incase anyone is curious, they do have some goodies left on the shelf for our engines. Here's what I was quoted...
Complete bolt on inline pump kit: $10,000
(you will need to fab an intake)
High strength hardened rods: $1,500 set of 8
Main Girdle kit: $2,500
C-ring kit: $1,000
From the first time I called the folks at Hypermax, they were very helpful and have been a wealth of information on hopping up an IDI. If you can think of it, they've probably done it at some point, and are happy to share their lessons learned (both successes and failures). That's how you know a good shop to deal with! You get what you pay for...

. I'm sure some one will be along to tell you they don't exist even while you are looking at them.
