I fall somewhere in the middle of the reliablility/all out performance scale. This truck served me well for many years. It did hard time pulling heavy loads almost daily. Everything from excavators, skidsteers, tractors, timber, firewood, and hay wagons could be found behind it on any given day. Now that I'm no longer in my old line of work, it's more a daily driven toy. It's earned its right to a little playtime. The level of power I'm shooting for would definitely NOT be reliable in a work situation, but driving around unloaded with the occasional 100 yard dash on a pulling track it will be fine. It just takes care and planning during the build, and then not flogging it every time you get behind the wheel. On the street, it will be operated within the stock parameters (in all likelyhood, the turbo I'm using won't even light off until around 3000 rpm). Then when I go to the track, the power will be there when I run it around 4500 rpms. Understood that the increased performance will naturally degrade the service life, but I don't think 400-500hp is out of the question for a "streetable" IDI.
