Hood latch broke, help!!

I replaced my drive belt Sunday and must have done something to the hood latch. The hood is shut and won't come unlatched. I can't get to the latch to unlatch it by hand or with a screw driver, has anyone else ever had this problem and if so any recommendations. I removed the grill and still can't get to it. Help!!

By the way this is an 1989 D250 Dodge with a 5.9.

can you try shoving down on it while you have some else try to run the latch. I can't remember if these have the hood pop feature where you pull the cable from inside the cab then run the final latch from the front of the truck. If so the cable maybe stretched.

You may have bumped the stoppers on the outer ends of the core support that are holding too much pressure on the hood now for the latch to release.

I finally got it opened. Just as I thought the hood latch cable came off. I ended up taking a big screw driver, prying the hood up and then I could get to the latch. I know now to be careful with the cable, it doesn't take much to knock it loose.
