My trans suddenly started slipping and I’ve been having a torque converter drain back issue, so I decided to check the fluid levels. Trans looked fine and when I went to check the transfer case I was horrified to find that my transfer case was not connected. I could physically rotate it by hand. Only 2 studs remained and were just literally hanging by a thread. My question is did this possibly damage the transmission by all that weight on the rear shaft?

Of course it saw something less than optimal.
Put it back together with some locktite to keep it bolted and see what happes, look for leaks and shrapnel in the fluids.
If the slushbox is cavitating, you already have issues.
If it goes away you might have won.

I have new studs and nuts on order. I guess after 450K things are going to come loose.

I took the case off today. Three studs broken off in the housing.
