Ex trucker with caterpillar engines and long term Duramax original owner LBZ dude I have stumbled upon a 1990 7.3 which I believe will fall into the IDI category. I know not much about them and am curious about the obvious things like durability, fuel mileage and parts costs. HP and torque specs. I believe it's a stock engine and it's in a motorhome. Good choice? I found and I am currently reviewing the Newby to IDI thread. Look forward to getting to know a few people here.

Welcome to OB. Durability and parts cost will be very cheap compared to Cat and Dmax stuff. If yours is stock and normally aspirated it won't win any races but the simplicity and durability will be pretty hard to beat.

Ask lots of questions, everybody here is pretty helpful and as a general rule most IDI things break down the same way. I would concentrate on getting the batteries/glowplugs/starter and then the fuel system tip top. The rest is all similar to what most 35 year old trucks acts like.

Add your vehicle specs in your signature so folks know what you have as it helps questions and answers.
