For anyone here running WMO - are you heating it?
If so before the filters or just before the IP?
This winter I've had some issues with mine, even with 50/50 blend. Now trying to pinpoint what's been wrong, other than cold weather.

I always wanted to put one before the filters so it could pass through them easier but I didn't have any troubles until 0-5* and -10 to -40 wind chills. Those temps only stick around for a couple of weeks so I didn't feel it was worth the hassle.

On my new truck I'd like to put a heater to get the fuel around 120*.

Ive got a flat plate heat exchanger like the ones used on wvo systems... need to get it installed but all the research ive done on the subject points towards a cleaner burn and better performance overall when the oil is heated.

I plan to install it pre pump after the filter head... picked it up for $60 so wont be out much if it doesn't do anything.

Im starting to wonder if sitting around most this winter has evaporated the RUG out of my WMO blend. This would cause the exact symptoms I have?

For this batch that's giving you trouble, use some extra diesel fuel treatment stuff.
Could be on the evaporation side...???

I had an issue with rug evaporating from my blend this winter. It caused my fuel to be too thick and it gave me some issues. I run a small heat exchanger before the filter. Makes more sense to me to heat the filter so it doesn't get plugged up and in case anything goes wrong it gets filtered before it hits the ip. It doesn't get the fuel too hot, at best the fuel is room temp by the time it hits the filter, but it's better than below freezing. The one I use is a block of aluminum with optional glow plug heating and primary coolant heating. It's plumbed in with the heater core lines off the top of the water pump.

Got a pic available so I can see how its set up? Where is a place for a good price for heat exchanger?

Another concern was overheating fuel going into the IP? especially in Summer time.

Really, it can only get so hot... as hot as coolant temp which is no where near the ign. temp of the oil. From research, the best performance is had when the fuel is heated to just under auto ign. temp just be for injection.

If you are worried about it, install an isolation valve and shut it off during the summer.

Thats an interesting setup.. neat that it can heat up before the coolant does.
