Head Studs

ARP sells 2 different sets for our 7.3 idi engine. One is the 1/2 inch by 7 inch long bulk stud. They also offer 2 different nuts. One is the expensive 12 point and the other is the less expensive 6 point. They both have the same holding power. The also have the bulk washers. They are hardened and ground flat so don't try using anything else like from the local home depot. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE ARP MOLLY LUBE. Thats as important as the stud material. I never had issues with ARP phone people. Because I'm about 70 miles from them I just drive up and talk to them. their engineers are an interesting bunch too.

Actually that's pretty normal from what I have been seeing. Asides R&D idi performance, cheapest set I have found but can't get them sadly..... If I could I would.....

RnD are not the 2000 series studs FYI....they do however hold better n bolts...which is all that really matters right?

Actually Gary may have been mistaken, as IIRC he was the one whom said a long time ago there are THREE studs for our trucks from ARP but the third set is made of unobtanium from ARP, you cannot handle them with bare hands as the contaminants or something or other will corrode the stud and cause failure, in essense pure race only is what I get out of the description....

That's the same price I got from my local speed shop. Arp site list a different number

I just this minute called Allenfastener, from the listing above, to ask him about not showing ARP studs for the 88-94 7.3 Ford.

He jumped right on it.. found there was a computer error in having them listed. Called me right back to tell me it was corrected and his price for a set of ARP studs as a kit with nuts and washers is $475.00.

I'm ordering a set on line now.. The part number is ARP-250-4204 to use in his search block.

My mistake. I was looking at 7.3 power stroke 250-4204 is correct. $475 is a great price too

Well.. money is spent.. I just put a set on order.. Allen tells me he will get them to me in 2 days since I'm in AZ.

$475.00 plus $13 and change shipping.. I can live with that.

After talking to Allen on the phone, I now understand his main business is supporting fast boats and pumped up engines. I was pleased with his response to my call.. no messing around, got right back to me to advise the website was fixed and delivery time available.

At this point, looks good.

Now to get the engine out and torn down, see what else I need to spend money on.. [ouch].

Just found a ZF5 4x4 with clutch and Xfer case, all attachments and clutch/brake peddle set from a truck being parted out.. just missed the Dana 60 leaf spring front end.. someone else beat me to it..

If the oils from your hands touches it the stud breaks. Also if you dropped a stud it will shatter when it hits the floor. So how do they survive in an engine valve cover?

If the oils from your hands touches it the stud breaks. Also if you dropped a stud it will shatter when it hits the floor. So how do they survive in an engine valve cover?

Hmm this is very interesting. Never knew they came up with such thing. It can be compared to someone wiping their ass before firing off a missile . Yeah sure it sounds like a good idea, but in the end it's damn near useless in my books.

I just ordered the arp ar7.00-LB with the washers and 6 pt nuts cost me 387.93 with tax and shipping hopefully I will get them sometime this next week. A big differance of 500.00+ for the kit.

Best you know what you just bought. These are a bulk stud thats about 3/8 inch too long but they work fine. These were found to work long before ARP actually made a set for the 7.3 idi engine. Typ4 is the first member here to try this out and prove it works. I was the second member to try it. My set was installed ok but I did have issues with the fine threads touching the deep socket I used. My tools are Craftsman tools. Had I still been working I could have had any tool or socket made. Sadly I was retired. I sure do miss having any tool available for use too. There is no need to cut off some of the top of the stud. The nuts threads down a little deeper but it will not run out of threads.
