I've also been noticing the influx of new people, and it's great. Sometimes the first time I see them is in my inbox. They get to reading posts and write to inquire about the Moose Products stuff. It's refreshing to see interest rising, and yes I do think the economy is a factor. Not only that, but it seems that the mainstream diesel hobby is now strictly Cummins centered. I would say the ratio of people doing Cummins upgrades to Ford/IH is at least 10 to 1. Matthias won a TS Performance video at last summer's IDI Weekend, and I watched it. Cummins after Cummins streaking by, with a small smattering of Powerstrokes and Duramax's. I found the video so boring that I didn't even finish it. The hobby obviously needs a new inline motor from another manufacturer to keep things interesting. In lue of that, people opting for something different, will have to fall back to the IDI, as it WAS that Cummins of yesteryear.

Let's throw this out there then. The DT is too big to be easily swapped, even though it's a better motor than the Cummins in a lot of respects, does IH or anyone else offer an inline that can fit in a pickup without doing massive surgery to make it happen.

Well I guess to clarify, what I was really thinking was a PRODUCTION inline from one of the builders other than Dodge. However, an alternative to a Cummins swap would be a nice option too. I don't know much about John Deere engines, but they would seem to have promise. :dunno

Yeah, ole Trav has been known to push things to the breaking point.
Yeah but Travis actually DID these things.
We've all seen an influx of new guys before. They show up, bounce alot of ideas around, accomplish little to nothing, and than move on.
We're normally left with several very good characters.

When it comes to engines, it is very important to be able to come up with new ideas.... but it is also required to have the thousands of dollars to make these changes, otherwise it's just more 'smoke out the tailpipe'

Best of luck,
Drew

I'd love to see a CAT engine in one of these trucks, anybody know if it has been done?

I've been to a bunch of mainstream diesel events. theres a few psd but its always duramax or cummins. nothing very new so it doesn't hold my interest. when i found double overtime then i swung by again and even went to an event to see it in person. but since then i've grown tired of it again cuz its the only one.

i'd love to see a CAT in something but they dont have anything very viable for the size we want.

a john deere would definitely be something. we have a 4440 JD with an inline six in it. pretty decent and i dont think its too big... but the tractors are expensive. JD did have a lot of different engines over the years too...

just found it. its a 466ci inline six. CR of 15.5:1. probably making 150hp at crank since 130hp PTO. oh this is only at 2200rpms...

A truck was sold on Ebay not too long ago with a 3208 CAT swapped in. I don't know if the thread that had it on is still around, but yeah, it's been done.

I've read on CompD that you don't have to do firewall mods with the DT360, but I've not heard anything about the 408.

I guess I would be another one of those Pipe-dreaming-new-guys you're talking about. I've been on here for more than a year, but didn't really pay attention until recently. But thanks you guys for all the help and brainstorming that got my "motor runnin'" (bad pun).
