Any ideas? Clean up the carbon and send it?
That's a ton of wear on those brushes for just a year. Maybe bad Chinesium brushes? The copper on the commutator looks fine from this angle.
That’s actually a really good idea to have a backup. Maybe I’ll try to clean this one up and replace the brushes and use it as a backup.
I'd definitely run new brushes, a light sanding of the copper and send it. They are supposed to be good units... check wire continuity while wiggling them to check for bad connections too.

I am running a Walbro FRB-13. Doesn’t quite flow enough, with maxed out Moose Junior pump I can outrun the Walbro pump and starve for fuel.

R&D makes one heck of a kit, regulated return and everything, I plan on getting one when they are in stock again.
Try reducing the bypass at the top of the fuel filter. That pump has lots of cap - most of the fuel is vented back to the tank.
You can test this by pinching the return hose (at the filter) and the walbro will slow down almost to a stop.

I’ve already deleted the line between the filter and return.

The wire connections were fine. Wiggling the wires going into the pump seemed to free the brushes up and start the pump. I’ll see if Holley can send me new brushes, these ones are toast.

In the mean time I might buy a spare and set up a backup on a switch like @Kdo58. These pumps are too critical and an easy failure point. Fortunately it didn’t leave me stranded, it stopped working when it was in my driveway.

Yeah, I'm thinking about buying a spare Carter pump. That's what came on this van, so it would be the easiest fix in an emergency. It'll be a direct part swap with the same bracket and wire connectors.

Unless the failed pump added too much resistance you ought to be able to limp home with just the injection pump. I had my pump relay fail and didn't realize I was running on just the IP until I tried to push hard up a hill, but 55mph on relatively flat terrain was doable.

I keep a cheap $10 Amazon pump in my toolbox. It came in handy one time helping somebody who was broke down on the side of the road.
