I may be posting this to early but I'm going Wednesday this coming week in Pensacola. Its a Dyno Jet 224xLC, they have a Rpm sensor that you but on the balancer so I'll be able to get torque numbers. I want any suggestions or requests on things to try will its on there for testing purposes especially for the NA guys. I have access to a pulse timing meter so I'm planing to do 8.5*, 9*, 9.5* degrees can or should I go higher to find out whats up there, Also plan on seeing how much more hp the Banks lid makes vs soup bowl deleted lid. I'm willing to rent the dyno for 2 hours, if I need more time. So any NA guys got things they want to see done as far as tuning.

OK! what year is the motor? MORE specifically, what pump do you have on her? THe older style or the 1992.5 and up with the torque screw?

I would LOVE to see some numbers both before and after the torque screw was toyed with. It's litterally a 15 second job to adjust it, I have a video on my youtube that shows how to do it if you are unsure what it is you need to do.

Also, what about the max delivery screw....what gains could you get out of this...?

This is all based on timing, age of the injectors and pump, milage on the engine, etc....but it might show SOME useful gain.

It would also be helpful if there pyro readings were taken as well, both before and after to make sure that any gains we might try adn get out of the engine won't be counter acted by high EGT's.

Many people have said that too much timing will eat GP's up...but if building a strictly pleasure motor, why would you want GP's anyways.....It would be nice to see what timing will do for these engines.

Okay, 1990 pump, max screw is maxed out and then turned back one flat, injectors and pump have 5118 miles on them, engine has 205118, the pump is limited full load to 4200 rpm. Egt's will be monitored with a camera. The pleasure motor is the 6.9 on the engine stand in my shop, the 7.3 is the work engine/test engine;Sweet

sweet!!!

please consider:

locking the fan clutch.block your radiator off if need be to get your temps up so she engages.id like to see how much power it uses.
if at all possible, could you test it with the fan on,but not locked, and then pull the fan,and see what the fan uses just in normal unlocked mode too.
(all the while, leaving your timing set the same of course between these tests.)
thanks!

I will gladly ship you my completely open element air filter to see if having A LOT of warmer air is better than having restricted cooler air. l

i think that my fan clutch doesn't lock when it gets hot, I can pin it if someone has some pics I've been wanting to pin it for Iwill, I'll do a some runs with the fan as it is and then do some with the fan clutch pined or lock if someone can give me instructions

Don't pin the fan. We had a member at a past IDI rally who pinned his fan, and when he shut the truck off the fan spin loose from the water pump, and ate his rad. Not recommended. You could remove the fan for S&G if you wanted to see how much HP it uses.

I want to dyno also... but it's too much money at the moment. If you want to make some adjustments. Set the pulse timing to 9.7*BTDC at 2000 rpm. The best power seems to be in that area with the ULSD fuel. You could try there and at 8.5 to see if there's a measurable difference. Also you could max out the fuel, run it at stock settings or run it like mine halfway between. I feel like you'll probably get 120-140 HP and don't be too upset if it' only 110 or 115. If you're really lucky it could be 150. Torque seems to be much better. The turbo motors will hit 200 with enough tweaks.

This is what I run, ive never had any kind of cool air or ram air on this truck so I dont have a comparison. It does seem to run much stronger before the engine gets hot and starts the cook the engine bay though.

My last dyno run yielded 137 hp, since then I've replaced the injectors with BB codes and rebuilt pump, and a banks power pack lid, hope it does better than 137 hp.
