You might consider lengthening the fuel sending unit pickup by a few inches with 3/8" fuel line and a compression fitting. You can use a 3/8" fuel line strainer available at Summit, Jegs or Amazon.

I replaced the shower head in my side tank with one I got from Amazon that had the later PSD screens (like in your picture). The replacement shower head fell apart in about 18 months.

Here's the new side tank fuel sending unit I installed.

Where did you get your sending unit for side tank, I’ve ordered 3 different ones and none are correct plug in

I ordered both of the sending units from Amazon. Here are the part numbers to use (for the old dual prong FSUs).

Front: FMSU-6DE
Rear: E5TFDB

The FSU above is for the side tank. Here's the rear tank FSU. Note, I've been doing this project since 1/26. Removing the tanks to service these FSUs is a PITFA! :frustrate

Definitely remove the bed if you need to service the fuel tanks. Rebuilding the antiquated Slim Jim Rotohydramatic transmission in my 64 Oldsmobile 98 was a cake walk compared to servicing these FSUs.

Updates to come on FTE at least:

Yep I ordered the one you have pictured the connector is wrong for my vehicle on side tank. The other one I order has correct shaped plug in connector but it is too small

That's crazy the connectors are wrong. Both of the FSUs I got from Amazon had the dual prong connector.

I actually had to buy the wire end of the connector from LMC Truck for my side tank because I had tried to modify the circuit to a 4 prong connector on the FSU. That didn't work well. :idiot:

Sorry I gave you the wrong part numbers. :Q

I don't know if it will help for your truck but I had originally ordered the following sending unit for my truck:

FG114A

I think I got it on RockAuto. It has a 4 prong plug (signal, ground, + and - for the pump). It's for the gas trucks with a fuel pump in the tank.

I tried to modify it but it didn't work, because my FSV was broken.

Yes, 4 prong would be for a 460 equipped truck with the hot fuel handling option(which most had) which had a lift pump inside each tank.

I think we talked about this before, not sure if anyone has done it yet, but do not see why you could not use a piece of steel or copper/nickel line to bridge the gap where the fuel pump is supposed to go, and use that style sending unit. Of course you would have to hunt down a 4 prong pigtail and splice that into your wiring harness, and only use two of the prongs,, the other two would be dead because there would be no pump.

My new rear fuel sender pickup from LMC came with the 4 prong plug, but only the black and yellow wires are used inside the tank for the float. The other two that would go with the gas engine pump are just dead ended at the bottom of the flange that seals to the tank inside. I rewired my leads to the sender by cutting off the old connector and splicing in the new connector with just the black and yellow wires. The shower head was a perfect press to the bottom of the tank and it all works great.

Cheers, Pete

I deleted the shower head and went with a fuel tank sump. $35 on eBay for billet aluminum. Drilled a 3-in hole in the bottom of my tank after thoroughly removing the fuel. Used 6an connectors to tie into the factory fuel line. Now I can use every drop of fuel and not worry about a shower head breaking off. Just another option
