Brown wires are for the Glowplugs(oustide wires on each plug) inside wires are for the injectors.

I took the valve covers off this morning.. Wasn't as hard as I've heard.

#1 and #2 don't spit out as much oil as the others and #7 doesn't spit out any at all.

What kind of a job is it, to swap out the #7 injector? I have a spare AA in the garage and could try just swapping. The A/C box looks like it'll be impossible to get the injector out..

Do I have to worry about fuel/oil leaking into the cylinder, from the fuel rail?

Gary if #7 won't clear the AC box. you can remove the top of the injector(4 torx screws) that will give you enough room to get it out.

You might want to look into some new injectors or rebuild the ones you have.

When you pull the number 7 injector, all the crap from the rails will fall into that cylinder. A little note, when changing all the injector. Always start from the rear. #7&8. This way all the crap fall into those cylinders. Makes it easy to clean up. Pull the glow plugs, toss the valve covers on and crank the beast over. This will blow the crap out. After you do that. Reinstall the glow plugs, button it up, then drive it like you stole it.:D

Thanks man...

Someone sent me this and it says to remove the vacuum tank, to get the #7 injector out... I had originally planned to do it the way you suggested. Maybe with this thing off, I'll be able to clean any crap out of the airbox.

on the earlly 94 the vac tank is one piece, so you need to remove the selonoid
the seloniod screws are t-15 plus, but usually a t-15 will work.

Thanks Nick...

I managed to get the injector out, by first removing the solenoid. It was suggested to me, that I quickly swap the injectors. That way, I wouldn't have to suck the fuel/oil out of the cylinder. Since this was the #7 injector, I knew it wouldn't be that easy. I fabbed up a vacuum rig and sucked out as much as I could. I let the suction rig run, while I was preparing the replacement injector for installation. I then removed the GP and installed the injector. BTW: the GP I removed, was a Delphi... Time for some ZD11's!

While the GP was out, I unhooked the other UVC's. I then went to crank the engine over, so I could blow out any remaining fuel/oil. I only cranked it for a split-second and the noise this thing made, scared the crap out of me! I thought fur sure, that it had still hydro-locked on me. Even though the GP was out, it still made quite a racket. It was then, that I saw the mess that had been made. Evidently, I didn't suck the cylinder out long enough. There was oil and fuel EVERYWHERE!

I then tried cranking it again and everything sounded fine. I decided to hook everything back up and try starting it. The truck took a bit longer to start than it normally does, but it did start! ;Sweet The truck idled perfectly and I decided to put everything back on the engine. On my test drive, the smoke was flying. The fuel and oil were all over the turbo, down pipe and right-side manifold. The smoke went away after about 4 miles and the test drive was a huge success!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and the phone-based tech support!

I forgot to mention, where I ended up finding myself some injector o-rings. I called the people at Antrim Diesel and was told that they carry most-everything I could need for this motor. While I was there, I also got a UVC connector repair kit. The #1 GP connector was burned and that GP is not working right now. I'll get that fixed later this week!

I had to replace the same injector on my truck and it definately makes a mess if you don't get most of the oil out so I cranked the truck over by hand a couple times before using the starter lol

I was kinda antsy to get it running and didn't think of that.. That's why I just bumped the starter that first time...

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Yep that oil makes a HUGH mess spraying all over the engine. Don't be surprised if it still runs ruff every now and again for a few days(until all the air is out of the system).

Nice work Gary;Sweet
regarding burnt UVC......here is a pic from mine a few years back....it seems the GP's that are located on the outermost pins are easy candidates for burning.

Wow!

The one burned pin on mine, isn't bad at all... Just burned enough, to melt the pin out of the connector..
