I need the print for the frost plug install tool. My neighbor will make them cheap. Searched on here but can't find it.

This tool is not something you need but once in a lifetime but need it and not have it... Well you have a big problem. This is why I have always felt we need a community tool box with all these special tools. I would comtribute to this. I also have the nearly complete Rotunda tool kit made for these engines. What its missing is the injection pump line nut wrench for reaching the bottom line nuts on the pump. No other tool can reach those nuts. Someday I will have one. so far its cost me nearly $400.00 to have a dealer replace number 4 hard line because I was so new to these engines I felt I could not do that job. Looking back I should have at least tried.. But I was worried I was going to mess this up big time.. Well now I know.

The one I made is based around a 1" bolt and and 1" & 1 1/4" scd 80 pipe nipples. Probably about $25 worth of materials.

You could probably make a serviceable version with common power tools, though a lathe makes it better.

We'll see how well it actually works here in a week or 2....

Please be sure to buy only the factory pack of 7 stainless steel plugs. If you don't do that I garentee you will have plugs poping out no matter how you installed them. I have seen this happen here more times than I like to count. I even watched as a set of ford plugs were installed in my block with the tool. I hvae made up a set of block off pressure plates so I can air test the bolck and lugs for leaks. I went to 30 lbs and used a leak detecter fluid called Snoop Leak Detecter. Found absolutely no leaks. Well about 5 or 6 months later I had some leakers because I didn't use any sealant one the plugs.. My mistake.. Not the shops. So out came the engine and I removed and replaced all 7 plugs once again with the proper sealant and the proper stainless steel plugs from ford. Been 7 years now and I always check the plugs whenever I'm under the truck. Not a leaker yet and hopefully never will be any. The proper plug... The proper tool and the proper sealant is the key to doing this important job right the first time. The only way we know for sure if the plugs are installed properly is to remove them. Well if they come out hard they were in properly. If they come out easy then they are installed poorly. But you guessed it. Ya can't put the good ones back in the block. they are a one use only plug. So not knowing if you have thenm in right because you didn't get the right ones or are not using the right tool.. Well its a disaster waiting to the worst moment to happen.. And you know it will.

I'm not sure I agree completely with the peril of installing brass plugs, however I do have a set of factory ones to go in.

The brass ones I stuck in there with RTV and a hammer showed no signs of being loose or likely to come out. My guess is that many shops don't clean the bore completely and don't know how far to dish the plugs in, plus maybe not using RTV on them.

I'll buy in to one, after we see a good prototype that works well. Sounds like a great opportunity to get the right tool.

My friend Guy whom is doing a 7.3 IDIT just made one I'm waiting on his results as it was his lack of properly installed plugs that got me onto this whole deal asking for measurements to get one made!

Lets hope these turn out ok...pun intended and work well. It's not rocket science!

If it's a good unit I'll fer sure take ONE!
