Okay, I have done a search for this and come up with very little. I was curious what the nicknames were for the various generations of F-series trucks. Here is a list, and what I have so far.

  1. (1948-52)
  2. (1953-56)
  3. (1957-60)
  4. (1961-66) "Slick 60's" (austin suggested)
  5. (1967-72) "Bump-Side"
  6. (1973-79) "Dent-Side"
  7. (1980-86) "Slant-Nose"
  8. (1987-91) "Brick-Nose"
  9. (1992-96 and 97 250/350) "Curved-Nose","Aero-Cab" or "OBS" (old body style)
  10. (1997-03 LD) "Triton"
    (1999-03 SD) "Super-Duty"
  11. ...

Please help me fill in the blanks here...

VII-"Slant Nose"
IX- "Curved Nose" or "Aero Cab" or "OBS"

P.S.
97-03 F150 is the Triton body
99-? F250/350 is the Super Duty (a nick name that I despise, IMHO the F-SuperDuty is the only one that deserves that title)
just in case you were wondering bout the later ones

Okay, let's keep this going. On the "Super-Duty", are there any nicknames to differentiate between those generations? There have been significant body, engine and trans changes since the Super-Duty's debut in '99. Also anyone seen any names for the new light-duty body styles for 2004-on?

I whole heartily agree about the Superduty name. Its just like chevy and dodge calling their 3/4 and 1 ton line HD. Just a marketing gimick. Hmm lets compare a 2000 F-250 "superduty" with a 5.4L gas engine and an 8600 lb GVW with a 1991 F-SUPERDUTY 7.3L diesel, Dana 80 10lug dually rear with 5.13 gears and a GVW of 14,000Lbs. To me Id say the 1991 truck is heavier duty but what ever sells trucks I suppose.

I guess they did differentiate between the F-250s with the 300 straight six, 302, and 351Windsor and with the F-250s having the 7.3L and the 460. They were called Light Duty and Heavy Duty respectfully.

To add to this discussion I would nickname the old F-1s "junk trucks" b/c that was the truck used on the hit TV show Sanford and Son

The 93-97 were always refered to as OBS (old body style) as far as I've heard. I guess when the superduty's came out, they looked so radically different that the 93-97 were the last of the original line.

From my time on the boards I've gotten to calling the '92-97's "OBS" like most others do...

I don't think I've ever heard a nickname for the '53-56 trucks but I swear I've heard the '57-60 trucks called "Square nose"

Well I'll add the OBS to the '93-'97 range, but only under protest. OBS started, at least on the Powerstroke forums, as a way to describe 1994.5-97 Powerstrokes.

I agree. But that's probably because we didn't name the 92-94 IDI's fast enough. We won't get a second chance to make that mistake again.

I have not heard of any nickname for the F-150 97-up except Triton, and the 97 body look went for a few years and then it "squared up" again, but again have not heard of anything other than Triton, and not 100% sure that was a reference to the body... the engines in 97-up (4.6, 5.4 and V10) were the Triton series of engine, like PSD in the diesels.....

On the Superduty (99-Up F-250 throught F-550, and not the 97-Older F-Superduty) I agree, there have been several subtle changes over the years. For Example:

Some Early 99's Had the Power Stroke V8 decal on the fender behind the marker light (but not all were this way)

Some Late 99, 2000+ Had the Large Power Stroke DIESEL V8 "plaque" on the doors (but not all, see above)

99 - 2000 - The two lines below the words Power Stroke on the above "plaque" were Red.

01 - 03 - The two lines below the words Power Stroke on the above "plaque" were Chrome. (On 7.3 equipped trucks)

03 - 04 - The words Power Stroke V8 were in red letters, and the words Turbo Diesel were in black on the above "plaque" (On 6.0 equipped trucks)

05 - 07 - The words Power Stroke V8 were in black letters, and the words Turbo Diesel were in chrome with a red background on the above "plaque"

99 - 02 - The headlight lenses were "faceted" (like a glass sealed beam). The turn signal and side markers were "faceted" and the lens color was amber.

03 - 04 - The headlight lens was smooth and clear, with a faceted mirror (Euro Style).
The turn signal lens was clear and faceted, the marker light was amber and faceted.

05 - 07 - Entire nose changed. Smaller headlight and turnsignal's Headlights and turnsignals were smooth and clear with faceted mirrors (Euro Style) and the markers were faceted and clear. This was also the change of grill with the 3 large flat cross bars.

08 - 10 - 6.4 equipped with the new nose (my opinion, ugly nose)

11 - ?? - 6.7 equipped with a new nose and on the dually's the small fender flare style fenders rather than the large "hips" from the earlier trucks.

These are just a few changes over the years..... nothing unusual. They have been doing subtle changes like this since the mid 70's......

I've always heard the 53-56 trucks reffered to as "Effie's" in the classic trucks magazines
