Ok I’m going to throw a little something at you guys here and I want some honest opinions if you all don’t mind.. As diesel enthusiasts we are much engaged in the fast growing world of these oil burners. Now, I have general likings for most diesels. we can say this that or the other thing about a specific brand-type of diesel but in all reality they all serve the same purpose. And that is to make the customer feel good about the power, fuel economy and of course the lovely perforated black smoke!! Now of course we all seem to stick it out with a certain manufacture. You know that one that you enjoy the most? Maybe because is a love you grew up with, in the family? Or maybe something more to it like a vehicle that fits your character. One that’s never let you down? Heck there are tons of possible variables, but here on this site most of us all are ford dorks right maybe not 100 percent of the population but a good percentage. I know I am a ford dork something fierce I have owned many.. From 1965 vehicles all the way up to my newest ever owned being an 03. Some have been lemons and some have been just plain rock solid would take anything I could throw at them studs. No matter what it was I had though it never changed my mind to disown one. Now after being a diesel mechanic at ford for a few years and the only thing that broke were the infamous 6.0 leakers you would think that it would drain a guy. And tear you of your brand loyalty? Yeah it could but you have to think and function with a open mind to be a winner.
So my question is would there be any interest in a strictly FORD diesel magazine from you guys.
Not saying diesel power or diesel world heck even 8 lug to name a few are suck magazines. I have yet to miss a copy since their debut they are great reading. I just wish sometimes us ford guys had more to stare at than the bad ass dodge or the bad ass Chevy that looks almost identical to the prior issues. I’m not saying I don’t like to read about these rigs by any means but I think that if there was a ford diesel magazine for the us (ford dorks) that it would be great. I mean heck they have them for gassers of every make it seems so why not us? Track down these guys building one off garage prizes such as double overtime or stroked out or even the long missed 9 sec idi in the recent diesel power magazine. I know of a couple working on a few things that would dazzle some minds. Have companies listed that specialize in specific ford dealings.. Our following is huge and I have read almost every diesel forum on the net and there are many questions that may be answered through the pages of something like this. So is this something that would be of interest? Why do I ask? Well if I get enough people wanting something like this than maybe it could become a reality…thanks guys;Sweet

That sounds like a great idea!

I'm sure many of us get really flustered when we open a diesel related mag and all we see are $50k show queens that will no doubt be sold within 6 months----totally defeating the REAL reason most of us buy diesel trucks---for the longevity and dependability of owning these unique rides.

The sad fact is the "goodie" market for our rigs---bricks, slant nose, OBS does not support the sales of those mags and that is the bottom line for the publishers.

It would take more than the hundred or so die hards in the basement to spark interest by one of the big three publishing houses.

The latest article in Diesel Power shows some promise for articles and pics becomming a regular feature---IF the interest holds!

That will take total commitment from all who want to the results!

Flood the publisher and feature editor with info and pics/build ups--with factual results and process! of how we get our rigs to those 200k/300k and beyond results.

The article will almost be like the info on our forums in detail....it is then up to the editorial staff to edit them down to space provided and so on......

Can it work? SURE ;Sweet

I don't think it would work. If you really look at the tech articles in magazines the items are installed or provided by advertisers of the same mag. Look at all of the adds that fill the pages, Those are the people who pay for the magazine to be published, not the little guy picking it up off of the shelf at Wally World. Since the advent of the internet and message boards such as this one, there is really no need for a magazine. If you want to see a 86 IDI with a 4 " lift, chances are someone HERE has one, and will gladly show pictures of it. Wanna see a OBS Ford with a Cummins in it? All you have to do is ask. Sure it not as easy to tote the PC around with you, as a paper mag. but with WIfi, cell cards, and laptops, you're not far from the info you seek.

+1 on what Geo said.
Seriously, if the intention is to be published/distributed on a scale like Diesel Power, I really doubt that it will fly. There's a reason why they're clogged with ads.
If the intention is like a boutique-style mag like Vintage truck, that just might fly. I've been an addict to this one for years.

It's not cheap to subscribe to since the costs are trully paid by the subscribers and not by the damn ads. If money is seriously the issue, then doing a e-zine will do the job. Only things that sucks about e-zines, is the fact that some of the best reading of the day doesn't happen at the computer.

Would it have to be distributed in paper form?

Using the web could eliminate most of the logistical problems.
